Hi all: I am completely distraught - found a deer tick on my neck this morning that I think has been there for 48 hours. I need the name of the lab that tests them.... Thanks, Pam

Igenex in California.
Website will give you phone number, etc. so you can send it.
They told me to put a moist cotton ball in with the tick so it doesn't dry out.

Just keep in mind that you could still get a false negative.

I sent in a tick to Igenex that bit our son. Every thing came back negative. Then we had his blood sent in and was positive for lyme and bartonella at IGenex, and positive for mycoplasma pneumonia through Labcorp.
My advice would be to start treatment now and send in your blood work to see if you picked up any thing new.

I have already started Doxy (compliments of internist) - waiting for Dr H's office to call me back. I am just terrified....already sent the tick to Igenex but not going to be surprised if they say it's fine - it was an adult deer tick and even the most conservative figures are that 50% of them are infected...I already had swollen glands around the bite on my neck...

Sorry to hear about your swollen glands--they were an indication of parasites for me, although I didn't know it at the time. Unfortunately, you get everything the tick had in it (co infections). Hang in there. You're treating early with some doxy (good). At least you're catching this stuff early.

Yeah - but I had a really rough go the first time, and it is terrifying thinking about going back there...hopefully what I know now will help...Lymenet people helped me through it the first time - thanks to you all & I may be back...

Sadly, you know so much allready...but just wanted to remind that you need 400mg a day of doxy-- not the usual 200. glad you are treating right away!

I too had gotten re infected, but in my case, even though I didn't know I was bitten the first time and spent 5 years seeing specialist, the second time around, I DID know what was going on.
I called my lyme doctor and he immediately put me on a protocol without even seeing me. With all we know, I would just go for the treatment since it will be shorter treatment by doing it NOW, instead of waiting for tick results and sometimes they aren't even accurate. Be safe...not sorry. That's my motto.

I don't get it. All these people rebitten. My neice, sister, & daughter were rebittiten this year as well.
They all had been given the speech. They avoid grass most of the time & I think they got it on the deck/pavement this time around.
I don't step outside anymore. Only to the black top driveway & back. I had been deathly sick & it was just too much to bare and not worth the troubles.
If money was not an issue, I would love to just move the heck out of here.

But I would do prophalactic treatment with meds and /or add astragalus to boost the immune system.

I read somewhere that ticks are more likely to bite people who already have some Lyme in them. No idea if that is actually true, but with how well the ticks have evolved to pass along Lyme, I wouldn't be shocked if it is.
