My daughter has just completed 3 90 minute dives in the past 3 days. She feels horrible with severe fatigue and nausea. Is she herxing from three dives?

Hi Toni...

It is possible.

In my opinion, 90 minutes is too long of a session. 60 minutes (excluding pressure up/down time) is enough.

You also mentioned that your daughter is doing FIR and sauna. This is more than likely causing too much detox at once.

The chamber is very good at assisting detoxification pathways...and I would suggest just doing the chamber without the other therapies for awhile...and at only 60 minutes.

She should drink lots of filtered water with minerals added, and include some gentle movement/exercise to help move lymph if possible.

Diet is very important as well...clean, whole foods, good fats...no processed foods, no microwaved foods...

Is she on other antibiotics/meds?

I'll stick to 60 min. and drop the FIR sauna for a while. The diet part is a bit difficult. Lyme has messed with her taste buds and she only eats bland foods.

My son had a herx like symptom after his sixth dive.

We took a few days off and then started the dives up again.

How old is your daughter? Are you treating with anything else?

Diet is an integral part of the picture...

What kinds of foods is she eating/will she eat?

I basically started herxing from day one on mHBOT, with larger herxes about 1 week in.

I was doing 60 min/day

When I started combining mHBOT with sauna, it was way too much for me and I set myself back for several weeks.

I have since dropped the sauna and may add it back in at a later date.

In the meantime using clean food, lots of water, light exercise as I am able to help keep things moving. Also supplements like NAC, milk thistle and Zhangs liver formula.

Keep us posted on how things are going!

Good luck

Phoiph, would it be possible to list the symptoms of too much oxygen opposed to symptoms of a herx? It seems important for people to know the difference.

Thanks

The concern is not so much with symptoms of oxygen toxicity, as it is unlikely that someone would become oxygen toxic with mild hyperbaric and supplemental oxygen at 60 minutes/day.

The concern is more the rate of "die off" and severity of "herxing", which is likely to increase in proportion to the length of time and degree of pressure in the chamber.

So, considering that people with Lyme are already dealing with a high toxic load, a balance must struck as to not overwhelm the body (this is counterproductive).

In my opinion, frequency (daily sessions) and consistency long term is crucial, however it is equally important not to overdo it with too long of sessions or too high of pressures.

We are out of town until Jan 8 and will resume mHBOT on our return. My daughter will eat pasta, cheese, apples, bananas, spinach, rice, some beans. That's it. I have tried for years to expand her food list but everything she tries taste awful to her. She drinks lots of water, usually filtered or spring. She takes Sun Chlorella, brown seaweed extract, magnesium malate, B complex, biotin, and Vit C. She's 19 years old.
