It could be elevated nighttime cortisol levels. Have you had your adrenal levels tested lately?

Tricia, I don't want to sound like a broken record...
But insomnia and the IC...
Some serious bartonella symptoms.
And you mentioned you have never taken cipro, which is a big hitter against bartonella.
Perhaps bartonella is the cause of your persistent symptoms?

Yup...GABAa problem...That is WHY Xanax helps.
Look at what "True Calm" by Now includes (list of ingredients)
BTW...there is supposed to be a Cu-Zn balance. Low zinc = high(er) copper...balance is off.
Caffeine = higher glutamate (brain accelerator) the conversion of glutamate to GABA (brain brake) needs an enzyme called GAD which needs B6/PLP or P5P is the active form of B6.
B6 has LOTS of functions!!!

It could be proto. Insomnia is also a symptom of proto (FL1953).

I don't mean to dismiss this as not being related (believe me I've had intense lyme/bart insomnia) but is there anything going on in your life? good or bad? worries? new routine?
I used to always get sunday night insomnia (worrying about the week ahead) it would often last through the week, as I would start worrying that I was not going to sleep. It is better if I sit down on sunday nights and sort through my worries before I go up to bed... but I still fight it.
I have had to resort to ambien. I am not sure it is lyme related or not--I'm not really recommending it-- but this has been the only thing to work for me.

You recently posted about getting married in a few months, dealing with IC symptoms still etc I would be surprised if you didn't have insomnia right now. Have you thought about maybe going for some counseling to help?

I am dealing with this too. I also wonder if I'm backsliding. Everytime I start a new med or protocol I have horrible night time anxiety! I get super scared of any new changes because of this. I don't know if it's the lyme or just me but I need advise!!

Having unknown stuff in your body causing pain, irritation, and all of the other body things you are dealing with can cause anxiety.
I am not a doctor, I just know with all of my issues I get anxious because not all of the problems have been pin pointed. The unknown is very scary.
Then if you are working, that adds on the top. Going to different doctors, different meds never knowing what they will do, adding on a wedding and no wonder you are not sleeping !!
I am sorry you are having a rough time- not fun at all!!

If it is bartonella you will feel anxious no matter what. Add that on to life experiences feeling out of control, and it can really send you (me) off the deep end.
Nothing much has changed since I began treating bart the end of January but I don't feel the anxiety I had and I am sleeping much better.
I am better able to handle stress. I traveled 1000 miles round trip to see an LLND only to find out none of the tests she ordered would be accepted at the labs because I have medicare. The previous month, January, I had a similar experience with Dr. F refusing to treat me.
I fell to pieces in January but immediately started taking something for the bart. By the time the second experience hit me, I just accepted it and moved on.
I was taking Ambien or Lunesta every night for weeks. Now I fall asleep without anything. Knock on wood. If it is Protomyxzoa I would not take magnesium. If it is PR, you will also have profound fatigue. With bartonella I don't feel that tired - just stressed and anxious and irritable.
In his new book, Dr. H recommends Adrenal Complex for people who have adrenal fatigue and can't sleep. I took it for a month and it helped a lot. It has a lot of licorice and real bovine adrenals so you shouldn't take it longer than 30 days according to what I have read. Dr. H did not say how long it was safe to take.
