Has anyone traveled with Cowden, Byron or any other tinctures? Did you put them through the xray machine? How many were you allowed to take?

Hi Catgirl, yes, I have travelled abroad with Cowden stuff twice. I packed the tinctures etc in a little insulated lunchbox and popped inside a printout of the Nutramedix description of the CSP, along with a copy of a positive blood test and a doctor's letter in which she mentioned that I was on CSP.

In the event, I did ask for them not to be XRayed: the first time they only really checked my date of birth on my passport with the date of birth mentioned on the doctor's letter. The second time, they didn't look at anything, but it helped that I was being wheeled though in a wheelchair!

Since then, there was a post on The Facebook Herbal group that someone at Nutramedix had said that it was OK for the tinctures to go through the XRay machine anyway.

If you are going somewhere with a different language, it does help if you can speak it a bit to explain about the illness if necessary, or at least have it written down in that country's language just in case the official's English is not good.

I also popped a clear plastic wallet in the little insulated bag to put the bottles in temporarily when going through Security.

You just have to be sure it is not over 4 ounces.

I just go back from Europe and brought my Byron White Tinctures. Each of them was in a snack sized plastic bag with bubble wrap. I stuffed them in a lead cloth bag that I formerly used to transport film. Then I put them in my carry on bag.

I told security when I went through. They did put the bag through the xray machine the second time coming back, but not during the first time going.

If they're in your checked bags it's fine. I was not allowed to take mine as carryon. They didn't care if I was under a doctor's care.

This is the TSA rule regarding carryons:

quote:
3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.
