Hi- I don't want to go to the ER. My mom gave me my IM rocephin mixed with 4.2 cc of lidocaine and I am wondering if she nicked the vein accidentally. There was no blood in the syringe but I just immediately began to feel weird right after she gave me the shot. Sort of a warm rush all over and a flutter in my chest.
I don't want to text my LLND because I want him to put me on iv drugs so I don't want to be a nuisance. He probably wouldn't mind but still.... I also will not go to an ER to explain this. My pulse seems fine. Has this happened to anyone? Any nurses out there?

Are you afraid of the lidocaine? Any urgemt care center near you where you can ask? As far as I know rocephin is given IV. At least I got it.

Thanks Kareni-I guess that is what I am worried about. Also maybe the speed that it enters the blood stream? I just know that you are supposed to draw back on the needle to make sure there is no blood in the syringe. At this point it has at least been an hour since the injection and I am fine so I guess there was no problem.

Glad you are OK.
You don't want Lido to get in a vein - that's for sure.
Something about the heart.
You must be doing the 2g IM injections?
What muscles are you using?

I've been doing IM for months now (both rocephin and bicillin).
As long as you aspirate before giving the injection, you should be fine.
I've had some injections where tons of blood came out afterwards, even with aspirating and no blood coming back into the syringe.
I asked my doc and was told not to worry. It happens sometimes, probably nicked the vein slightly. All is fine.
You'll definitely see lots of blood if you nick a vein.

And yes Susan- I am doing the 2 g IM injections. I am using my rear end and I am supposed to get through 12 weeks of this and I have to say my butt is lumpy! I am on 11 weeks and I really don't think I can do another week. I am seeing my doctor on Wednesday and I think the plan is an antibiotic "holiday" and then maybe IV. Not sure what we'll do.

I'm feeling great on bicillin. Rocephin didn't work well for me and I horrible stomach issues (not sure if it was that or the actigall, but can't take one without the other).
Bicillin has been a big turning point. I ice the area before the injection, then use a heating pad after the injection. That seems to help with pain and lumps.
The lumps will go away eventually when you stop.

I put bicillin in my siatic nerve once. I wound up on the floor it went to my brain and felt like thousands of bugs under my scalp.
The bad stuf lasted about 20 minutes I felt weird till morning.
