Topic: Out of State IV orders -- how do you handle?

I talked with a staff member of a well-known LLMD who prescribes at-home IV infusions for out of state patients. He has to get an in-state doctor to sign the orders for the meds and infusions.
How do you deal with this? My PCP would never sign off on such orders...looking for new PCP.
Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this process? Is there a way to get an out-of-state order for the IV infusions and home health?

From talking with hundreds of lyme patients, I have concluded that this is the way it is with all lyme doctors. You need an in-state doctor to order IV insertion for you. (This is done at a hospital.)
I suggest you try contacting the lyme support groups in your state. See Support Groups on the left side of the page.
They should know who will work with your lyme doctor to get this done for you.

TF, that's a good idea -- I will try that, thx!
Are LLMD's required by law to get a sign-off from an in-state doc?
How do most folks do it? Are the PCP's agreeable to this?

I don't know if it is state law. I just know that hospitals do not want to honor an out of state order for installation of a PICC line.
So, everybody has to find some in-state doctor willing to write the order for you.
Many PCPs balk at doing it.

I think most states have that law .. that the IV must be prescribed in-state.

- Much will also depend upon the desire for any kind / degree of insurance coverage on this. Good luck. -

Your original post was not clear on whether the IV line insertion was involved in this problem. The way around that is to just have it done by someone in the state where your lyme doc is located. Then you can order the meds to be mailed to you from an infusion co. Ordinarily it is harder to get home health visits with an out of state doc. But I believe there is a company that can do this, just don't remember who.
