Has anyone tried this homeopathic remedy?

I have taken it the last two nights with Intermezzo

and am sleeping much better. I hope it sticks! I feel

much better than when LLMD recommended Klonopin +

Intermezzo. Boy, I miss normal sleep!

Glad to hear this helps. I've not heard of it so did just a start to a search for those considering this.

The first ingredient in it, Milk Oat Seed, is fabulous for me, though. I have enjoyed Herb Pharm's tincture in the past but forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. It's time to add that back in at night.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22898322

BMC Complement Altern Med. 2012 Aug 16;12:126. doi: 10.1186/1472-6882-12-126.

Effect of Neurexan on the pattern of EEG frequencies in rats.

Dimpfel W1, Roeska K, Seilheimer B.

Excerpt:

. . . In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the low-dose medication Neurexan influences central nervous system activity in rats.

The resulting electroencephalographic profile of Neurexan shows several similarities with those of other calming agents, such as Valeriana and Passiflora, suggesting a potential benefit of Neurexan for patients with stress-related disorders.

Moreover, this report demonstrates that electroencephalographic signatures are also valid biomarkers for the assessment of low-dose medications, such as Neurexan.

Effectiveness of the homeopathic preparation Neurexan compared with that of commonly used valerian-based preparations for the treatment of nervousness/restlessness - an observational study.

Hubner R1, van Haselen R, Klein P.

Excerpts:

. . . A prospective, nonrandomized, noninterventional, observational study, using conventional or CAM practices, was conducted in 49 German practices. . . .

. . . The planned treatment duration was 2 weeks. A total of 826 subjects were included in the study and 777 (553 Neurexan and 224 valerian) subjects were available for the final examination. . . .

. . . The changes from baseline and the differences between the groups were statistically significant. . . .

. . . Neurexan appears to be an effective and well-tolerated alternative to valerian-based combination therapies for the treatment of nervousness/restlessness in subjects favorable towards a CAM-based therapy.

From: The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook (Tillotson, et.al.):

http://oneearthherbs.squarespace.com/important-herbs/milky-oat-seed-avena-sativa.html

MILKY OAT SEED (Avena sativa)

Excerpts:

Milky oat seed is a mild but reliable remedy for strengthening the entire nervous system after periods of prolonged stress. . . .

. . . A chief virtue of milky oat seed is its extreme tolerability by otherwise highly sensitive patients who have difficulty withstanding treatment with stronger tonic herbs.

It seems to exert an immediate effect (necessary when patients exhibit extreme anxiety and nervousness) as well as a long-term strengthening benefit.

[the authors says he will] often combine it with scullcap, which has stronger sedative action. Good alternatives include "Avena-Scullcap compound" made by Herb Pharm and "Phytocalm formula" made by Herbalist and Alchemist. . . .
