My son took Mag Malate. From what I've read it is most easily absorbed by the body.

You need transdermal magnesium glycinate - no problem for bowels at all.

Oxide and citrate are the most likely to cause diarrhea.
Glycinate is highly absorbed. I haven't taken malate in about 15 yrs. It caused acid reflux for me.
Magnesium oil on your feet would be great, and so would epsom salt baths.
I still swear by ReMag .. no stomach worries with that one.
I also supplement that with citrate.

A new doc I went to suggested mag malate, which I've never tried. Every other mag goes through me. We'll see how that goes!

Our LLMD has my daughter on magnesium L-threonate. The research on this form of magnesium is interesting. This particular form of magnesium crosses the blood-brain barrier. It is shown to reverse memory loss in people with chronic pain. Our LLMD says he's also seen it improve chronic headaches in many of his patients.

I've read that the glycinate gives more o a calming effect and is particularly good for those with anxiety.

Magnesium Malate. It actually helps with the Krebs cycle and the Malate works to relieve muscle fatigue in addition to the effects of magnesium. It makes a difference. I felt the difference in days when I upped my dose in the fatigue level in my muscles.

At the moment I am hedging my bets by using glycinate, threonate, magnesium chloride (liquid oral and occasional bath flakes, the mgcl ones being an alternative to Epsom salts). Magnesium oil (also chloride) has just arrived and I intend to use that on my feet and calves before bed to ward off cramps.
I need at least 800 mg per day and if I used that amount of malate, which I have often used in the past, I would probably feel 'a laxative effect'! As it is, the combo I am using does not have this undesirable outcome!
At some point, I intend to try the Remag, which is supposed to be 100% absorbed, so presumably does not need to be taken in such large quantities.
