Anyone else have terrible insomnia? I have never met anyone who has it as bad as me. I mean it is BAD. How do you deal with it?

I have and still use both trazodone and Xanax when needed. Do whatever u have to your body needs sleep.

I still take Lunesta at night. Insomnia for 15 years. Been on different sleeping aids.
I've tried every natural supplement known, doesn't do it for me.
They do help others (natural supplements- plenty of recommendations use the Search function)
But I was in dire need of solid deep sleep to run my life, so I got a prescription.

I didn't sleep at all for a couple of years. Believe it or not, this is Gospel. First of all, you have to get your Lyme and Co under control with either ABX or herbs. I now use Buhner's herbs as recommended in "Healing Lyme." This is very important. If you have a problem that is caused by a disease, you have to first fix the disease.
For sleep, half an hour before bed, I take 1 Valerian and 4 Suan Zao Ren Tang (by Plum Flower) and if I wake up, which doesn't happen for at least 3 hours, I take 4 more Suan Zao Ren Tang and read a good book till I get too tired to read. Just started this combo and have been sleeping like a baby for a couple of nights now.
A caution though, after 3 am, I don't take any more Valerian or I wake up feeling wakeful but tired. If I don't do that, I wake up feeling rested. I don't take the recommended dose of Valerian, because any more than one gives me the opposite result - wakefulness.

Ksoup, I feel just like you in that I have only talked to one person somewhat like me. I have had 7 overnight sleep study's with two different sleep doc's. Both said I get NO delta sleep at all. That is the deepest level of sleep that heals all the little or big injuries that one gets just from walking, or whatever.
The one doc said it is just like I have not slept for 15 years. This is just what I feel like. I "sleep" but when I get up I am MUCH MORE TIRED then when I went to bed,and I HURT ALL over.
The only thing that ever gave me DEEP sleep was Fluconazole. It was a miracle! for 2 months I felt totally well. Then it stopped working. Now NO antifungles help at all.
When I Google "People who get NO DELTA sleep" it says over 80% commit suicide. I can understand why!!! I must still be here for a reason. I believe it is to help other people who are suffering, and just to be a friend and truly be Kind and Loving! Golf444

I take 25mg benadryl to go to sleep. If not enough, then 50mg benadryl. It's both OTC and by Rx.

When I had lyme I had terrible insomnia. It all got resolved once I got great lyme treatment.
I could not sleep. I might finally fall asleep at 1 a.m. and I would wake up every 20 minutes until 2 a.m. and then that would be the end of sleep for me for the night.
It is truly horrendous.
My first 2 lyme doctors did not give me good treatment. So, the insomnia continued. But, once I got to a doctor who treated according to the Burrascano protocol, my insomnia was gone within 2 months.
That lyme doc told me that lyme affects the sleep center of the brain. So, that is why you can't sleep. Get great lyme treatment and this will all turn around.
It is so wonderful to be able to sleep.
I have been cured for 10 years, but I still remember what it was like to finally be able to sleep again. I desire that for you. If you were on the east coast, I could point you to a good Burrascano-type doctor. Hope you can find one where you are located.

I have had insomnia since I was 14. I am now in my 50's. treating lyme helped (and I am not sure I am through treating) but I still have insomnia. I would literally watch every hour tick by. may dose in between. I would do this for 4 nights and finally sleep on the 5th night cause I was exhausted... and then it would all start again.
8 years ago, a doctor prescribed ambien. it is the best drug in the world for me. I have fought to stay on it, even consulting a sleep dr. as my PCP will/can no longer prescribe it. I am down to 2.5mg a night. Brand matters. I am able to take much less of a different brand of generic than I was of another.
behavioral changes like using the bed only to sleep and especially removing the alarm clock helped too... as now if I wake up I don't know what time it is and can get back to sleep easier.
but it is debilitating. I was so exhausted, got into more stupid fender benders, and got aggravated at people a lot more. I love sleeping now. I would rather risk the adverse effects of ambien than give up sleeping again.

I sympathize with anyone experiencing insomnia because I have had it since I was 12. Some people are super sensitive to caffeine and I am one of them - so only one cup of tea a day in the early morning. Too much sulphur will also wire some people up. I could never never drink alcohol.
I tried all the natural remedies but they would stop working after awhile. JuJube seeds are very good and corydallis root. I think taking something for your adrenal glands helps too - something with real bovine adrenals, not just herbs. L tryptophan helps. there are a lot of helpful herbs but you need to switch them around.
Fighting the infections that cause insomnia is the most important thing - bartonella and protomyzao are the worst ones for that.
You should get your thyroid checked - make sure you don't have antibodies. Ha****moto's disease will cause vicious insomnia.
Keep your evening boring and go to bed early so you aren't stressing about the minutes you have left before you won't be able to get enough sleep. Given yourself plenty of time. Practice mediation. When my thyroid was out of whack I could not sleep more than three hours a night and meditation helped save my mind.
Drugs lik Ambien and Lunest are extremely addictive. i take Lunesta when I have to travel and it is a bear to get off of it. I affects you ability to concentrate and can even change your personality. But if you need it you need it.

Have you looked into adrenal fatigue? that was a big part of it for me, along with the Lyme and co.
I took Flexeril in the evening for a while as well.

I'm bringing this thread up because I'm panicked about insomnia today.
I switched clinics when my MD quit in April. She prescribed ambien and knew I didn't like being on it but knew I needed sleep.
I switched to a new clinic closer to me and this MD seemed understanding when we talked about my insomnia.
I told her a sleep MD was not concerned that I was on ambien. I don't sleep walk, or drive or eat and am not groggy in the am. She actually said she was glad that the sleep doc had reassured me.
Well, that was a month ago and time for my refill today and pharmacy just called and said she's giving me only 10.
Once, I had run out and was without it for 5 nights and did not sleep or nap. I was close to insanity.
I've recently started some new things meant to block glutamate, ammonia and histamine to calm my brain down, but no results yet.
I've tried everything natural and things like trazadone and seroquel in the past.
Guess I'm just venting because there's really nothing to do. Hoping that when I run out of these few pills that I can just die a natural death quickly.
I'm in tears and feeling hopeless. I know you can go crazy from no sleep and hoping you can die from it.
