Hi friends,

I can't tell if Levaquin and Bactrim have helped or not after 6 weeks.

Looking back, I can see that my energy is slightly, but noticeably, better. I sometimes can get out of bed and lay on the living room floor now. One day my energy was a whopping 35% improved actually, a little more than 3 weeks in. But it was just one day. It was a pleasant day, the first in a long time actually, but the pain was just as strong as ever despite the slightly improved energy.

My prostatitis actually improved for the first time in 10 years during the 4th and 5th week.

However, my chest inflammation and whole body burning (my two worst symptoms) have definitely grown during the time that I've taken it.

So, something gave me a little energy and helped my prostatitis, but all other symptoms have kept getting worse.

So confusing. [Frown] Dumb disease.

My doc wants me to change to Bicillin shots with Flagyl and Bactrim, but if what I'm doing is working then I don't know if I should change just yet.

I'm certain that I'm not floxed, just FYI. I did have a little tendon pain and I sprayed on my magnesium spray and it really burned, so I was low on magnesium. I caked it on and the slight tendon pain promptly resolved. I know flowing can happen at any time, though, without warning.

If anyone has a similar experience 6 weeks into an antibiotic I'd love to hear it. I'm very confused about this.

Thanks everyone,
Sam

Hi Sam, I was floxed from Factive, a fluoroquinolone.

I have tendon pain from the back of my knee to my buttocks -- it never goes away, even after several years -- makes sitting quite painful.

The only people i would recommend that drug class to would be members of the IDSA, haha.

Really, i wouldn't even do that to them.

I would guess that since you are responding to your current combination, you would probably have a good response to other combinations as well.

I'm not a doctor, just a guinea pig like many others here.

Lol, well I don't plan on joining them anytime soon. [Wink]

So sorry to here you were floxed. [Frown] I have a lot of floxed friends. Levaquin was definitely a last resort decision. For me, my infection is much much worse than most floxings and I've tried many many other drugs in the past year. I'm incredibly disabled unfortunately.

I think (?) I've responded somewhat to this, but it's so hard to tell what's causing what.

Oh wow, you made it that long on Levaquin. I made it 32 days and I actually think it did a lot of good in the long run. I ended up with Achilles pain and stopped and was switched to rifabutin.

I'm curious about your chest inflammation as this was always a symptom for me, and one of the most annoying ones. I would say mine is behind the sternum. I had a PA examine me once who really pressed into the xiphoid process. She told me there was a joint in that area and that could be the possible course of inflammation.

Yeah I've tolerated it just fine thankfully. The little bit of pain I had was in tendons I had stretched (not my Achilles), so they might would've hurt a little even without being on Levaquin.

My chest inflammation is my disabling symptom. Mine is more around my heart. Feels like my heart is beating against sandpaper. It's horrible. If that could improve I'd be a much happier man.

Wow, just gotta say that I have stayed off abx for 5 days and now I can't get out of bed at all, even just to lay on the living room floor. I forgot what it was like to not be able to get out of bed at all.

Even though my symptoms were getting worse overall the abx must've been helping. Amazing how quickly you can forget how much less energy you had just a month ago.

Just wish my actual symptoms (other than fatigue and prostatitis) would improve so that I could know for sure this is working.
