Hi <<<<< LymeNet Family >>>>>,

Having recently and over several months had to use ABX, I finally get to stop for awhile.

I had a light rash, now it is a lot worse, It is almost like Diaper rash, we are talking front to back, itchy, really itchy blotchy, little bumps, sometimes painful[trying not to give out TMI here].

Urinary tract seems better, but the rash burns when I must urinate, not near the urinary output area, but anywhere the urine touches my skin.

I have used some gentler products meant for itching, it calms part of it temporarily, but the rash seems to be worsening.

I'm off the ABX, also have some itchy roundish patches on my back. I have stopped most of my supplements for a few days too.

I am trying to figure out a low cost, way to manage this and make it go away.

Any ideas, for soothing the itch and burn, and getting it gone would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any tho'ts or ideas you may post.

Jus' Silverwolfi with some added tho'ts:

The rash on my back, does not look anything like the rash,in the more delicate areas.

My back looks almost like spots of Eczema,I used to get as a child.

The delicate areas,as mentioned, are like diaper rash, to at least some extent.

Very uncomfortable Silverwolfi here

Sounds awful Silver, uncomfortable probably doesn't do it justice [group hug]

You're description of it makes me think yeast? Especially coming off of abx for a while. A lot of times that is the cause of diaper rash too.

If you have coconut oil it might be worth a try. It is often used successfully to clear rashes in the sensitive parts of little babies. Might help the spots on your back too, at least with the itchy part if it isn't the same thing.

Sounds like yeast to me. You might need to call the doctor.

Domeboro may help .. you can get that over the counter and apply it to skin. (you do "soaks" with it) Ask your pharmacist about it.

Yes, sounds like yeast. You could use nystatin or diflucan, rx'd by the doctor. Plus, nystatin cream rx'd by the doctor for the local areas.

Plus, plenty of very good probiotics, away from the nystatin or diflucan.

A word or warning for the future: I find that it is best to use nystatin with the abx, whenever you take it. Plus, the probiotics. That way you don't have to suffer through getting a bad yeast infection and having to play catch up.

LLMD's usually will do this. Regular doctors are not always so smart about it. But if you ask for nystatin rx's with the abx, hopefully they will comply in the future (and now with the yeast infection).

There is a great product: Orithrush-D, which is a liquid that is an OTC supplement that you dilute with water and can do a douche with---and can spread it on the area. It really works, and quickly. The Vitamin Shoppe used to carry it, not sure if they still do. Good health food stores may carry it. Otherwise, online---but right now you need something quickly.

Lymetoo is right about the Domebro. Easier to find, I'm sure.

Hi there <<<<< gz, Lymetoo,and Rumigirl >>>>>,

Thank you for the tho'ts and ideas, this is so frustrating, and I'm up at 3:29 a.m. here, because I woke up half an hour ago and cannot sleep.

I tried to prevent this type of problem, with an anti-yeast supplement from Vitamin Shoppe, kept on probiotics' and digestives timing everything away from the ABX as best as possible.

There are no LLMD's here in the Vegas area, and my PCP, nor the ID Doc'[ who excused me as patient], nor the Urologist [who excused me as a patient before that] deigned to prescribe anything anti-yeast [of course].

This is so discouraging, I have even had to take Children's Benadryl to help avoid problems. I am allergic to many ABX, and/or very sensitive.

If I can't get the rash to stop soon, I may have to try to brave the mess at my clinic. We have had problems with the staff, even after the meeting we got awhile back, case management and so on.

Hoping, soon to be able to get on something besides Amerigroup Medicaid,to have a few more choices. It is difficult being on such a restricted budget.

I'll have to check with our pharmacists, and see if they carry Domebro, I'll have to find a way to soak with it,as I cannot sit down into a tub, but if they have it,and affordably,I'll try it.

Coconut oil I have, so that may help too. I'll check on these other products as well. It is hard to get the DRs.' to prescribe Diflucan [I've run into this problem before]. I get a heat rash issue from time to time, but never this bad.

Sometimes I just feel prevented at every turn. But, thank you each one,for the ideas and suggestions. I will see what I can find out, and hopefully something here will work!

After three different Doctors now have, excused me as a patient[since February],it is hard to trust any of them. The last two fairly recently excused me.

I really feel it is because I had Lyme Blood testing done[and of course they think LabCorp, and Quest are the living end ].

It is in my records that I had a LD Dx, in 2006,and it was clinically positive, with 2 out of 3 of the numbers required low positive, and a number of equivicals,I think is how they say it now. Now they require at least five, and I show as Negative.

Well, again, I greatly appreciate the help here, and will see what I can do to stop this maddening itching rash. I've had yeast infections before, and I don't know if it is yeast or not,I just know it needs to stop.

If you can get the Orithrush-D from the Vitamin Shoppe, or another health food store, that stops it cold quite quickly. It feels better right away.

Here's another idea: vaginal yeast suppositories or cream is over the counter, so you could easily do that right away with no doctor involved. If you got the cream, you could get extra to use externally.

What a mess that the doctors are so bad where you are! And money issues makes it harder, too. But these remedies are cheap, thankfully. I would bet on either of these more than Domebro, although that wouldn't hurt. That is more for rashes in general, which might help. The others are for yeast infections.

Hi <<<<< Rumigirl >>>>>,

I used to get the vaginal 'yeast beast' when I was in my early 20's, even with only white cotton underwear and so on.

I'm not sure this is the same ?? It's kind of everywhere in the delicate area, sorry if it is TMI, but even my behind is red, bumpy and had like chapped areas.

I wonder if the vaginal yeast cream might help the itch calm down?! I have to be really cautious, about anything I use near the Urinary tract opening [ words are scrambled more than usual today, lack of sleep.]. It seems I get bactiri-urea[sp.] very very easily.

I found Coconut oil eases the itch temporarily, thanks <<<<< gz >>>>> for the idea! Still have to find something to get rid of the rash tho'.

Jus' Silverwolfi here,

I have an UH-OH happening, by which I mean the odd rashes have spread.

Now I have on in the corner of my left eyelid, above and below. I occasionally get a bit of dry ski, by my eyebrows, but this is actually peeling, and stings.

After we get some business taken care of tomorrow, to do with TrekC's Health and Medications, I may be going to an Urgent Care.It would be quicker than trying to get in to my Doctor,at this time.

I'll see if it calms down tonight, I can hope and pray. I am always very careful about my eyes. Eyesight is precious and it was brought home to us in '07 ,when TrekC' permanently lost the sight in one eye.

If I need to go in ,I'll keep y'all posted ... boy I don't like to have to do this. I'm praying they don't mess things up worse for me,like the last two 'specialists, I was sent to did.

Jus' Siverwolfi hopeing for a miracle on several fronts!

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo >>>>>,

Yeah, I've been watching things closely, but this has me bothered, and the eye is blurring.

I really think the Keflex, and the Bactrim, may need to be permenantly off the table.

In the midst of this, TrekC', just hurt his shoulder, the joint has been popping and it went out. He is waiting for it to pop back in.

Well, I'll report back in,when I find out what is up,maybe everything will resolve by tomorrow?? If not I guess I go in to Urgent care, and maybe TrekC too.

Good grief, when it rains, it pours (TrekC having his shoulder go out to boot!).

Yes, you had better go in and get the rashes looked at. So much for arm chair suggestions. At Urgent Care, do they have a dermatologist? Not that they are always so good with this stuff, but they do deal with skin stuff.

Sigh, it's always something! I hope that you get answers and relief soon. And TrekC, too. Having your shoulder pop out of joint is no joke either.

Here is a list of side-effects of Keflex:

Adverse effects[edit]
The most common adverse effects of cefalexin, like other oral cephalosporins, are gastrointestinal (stomach area) disturbances and hypersensitivity reactions. Gastrointestinal disturbances include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, diarrhea being most common.[17] [/B [B]Hypersensitivity reactions include skin rashes Hypersensitivity reactions include skin rashes, urticaria, fever, and anaphylaxis.[18] Pseudomembranous colitis and Clostridium difficile have been reported with use of cefalexin.[18]

Signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, trouble breathing, or red, blistered, swollen, or peeling skin. Overall, cefalexin allergy occurs in less than 0.1% of patients, but it is seen in 1% to 10% of patients with a penicillin allergy.[19]

Hi <<<<< WPinVA, and Rumigirl >>>>>,

Thanks for the tho'ts and info', the rash is slowly easing, I did some researching, and hunting around, for a homemade remedy. I Saw coconut oil mentioned in this thread,

... I added enough baking soda to make a paste, and apply in the shower [it does sting for a couple of moments, but then has a cooling effect in the diaper rash zone].

The eye area, I do Q-tip and simple coconut oil ,it seems to be helping. If either rash area or the spot on my back worsens again I'll have to go in. A lot going on here,so I am trying this first.

The Keflex, information pings and resonates n many points. Skin rashes and itching, diarrhea, blistering, swollen, and peeling, diaper rash skin.

...And last but not least serious allergy to penicillin. So that's off the table, and likely the Bactrim too. don't know what else to do,and I am keeping Children's Benadryl around too.

TrekC's Shoulder is still stiff, but seems to have finally shifted back into place, and now feels like a sprain and pulled muscle issue.

If other things would just calm down it would be so nice!! We were just praying about that, and TrekC's heart issue situation.

Will start a different thread on that after awhile.

Thanks so much for the suggestions and the prayers and hugs,it is greatly appreciated. Will update if there are more rash issues.

Jus' Silverwolfi hoping I've beat this darn rash!

Hi there,

Updating, well I have now experienced peeling 'diaper rash'[?!?] for lack of something better to call it. The stem to stern, front to back peeling like a sunburn type.

Still a bit up by eye, peels a little but not near as bad as the 'nether region'.

Children's Benadryl, and coconut oil helps and it seems to be getting better finally, still keeping a close eye on matters.

Thanks again for prayers, ideas and information.

Hi <<<<< nomoremuscle,Lymetoo,and tulips >>>>>,

TrekC'and I are keeping a close eye on the rashes,if I get a fever, going in immediately,so far that is okay.

The peeling is settled down some, but that makes me nervous. If it isn't pretty well gone by Monday we are heading over to Urgent care.

I have an area that injured in a fall several years ago. Our big husky mix suddenly decided she should at the bottom of the back porch, heading to the fence while I was still on the top step.

I fell on carpeted steps, and got a rug burn thru my cut offs. The area has always been a little sensitive. But nothing like this has ever hit me. So any red irritated areas,or more peeling and I go in to UC.

Will keep y'all updated, and am going to update my PCP,if it doesn't show up in his notes this time,we'll have another case management meeting.

Hi <<<<< LymeNet Family >>>>>,

Well, I am showering carefully and then going into Urgent Care, rather than wait and wait to get in to my PCP's clinic.

Last night the rash in the 'Nether Area' worsened and was actually bleeding in some areas.

Diaper rash ointment, coconut oil, nothing is stopping this. And as I have been very cautious, and it still spread to eye lids, enough is enough and too much Already !!!

[And I only used the coconut oil near my eyes, other than my Dr. prescribed Occusoft. The Coconut oil being in different containers.].So shower, quick lunch, and then off to the 'Doc' in a Box',as Trekc' calls UC's .

Wishing I didn't get White-Coat syndrome so badly...

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo,me,and various LymeNet Family >>>>>,

I went in this afternoon, and Doc' said it is a form of yeast infection. Sadly it is a common problem, and all to often doctors don't address it before the problem begins.

So pills, and cream, and watching it closely, another cream tomorrow, and hopefully no serious side effects.

Doc' says to call him tomorrow,if it gets way redder,or I get nauseated,or lots of diarrhea. Hoping that it will just do it's job. We've seen this Dr. before at UC.He actually seems caring and concerned.

I felt bad for the staff, and Doctors there today, everything was taking longer, because they had some patients come in that were serious cases.

At least three times the ambulance had to be called. One poor patient was picked up while we were there. The Doctor was visibly concerned. They had a very very hectic day today.

Thank You, to each of y'all who said go in and get this checked. I don't want to have to go to the Hospital, for Christmas. Hopefully and prayerfully this will stop it.

The pills should stop the problem near my eyes too, One cannot apply the cream there. I was told the day after the first pill Diflucan is usually kinda rough while it is killing this ornery Fungus-a-mung-us off.

When I had to take it in 2006, it mostly just made my heart beat a bit more than it should. They know that is a risk.

But when the rash is itching, peeling, bleeding, stinging and burning,it has to be dealt with. And since it also around my eyes, that isn't good.

It is a frustration tho', I was taking a precautionary yeast stop product, and probiotics too.

I'll check back in,if this darn fungle-jungle doesn't get defoliated properly. The meds' say that it will take time. so I get to wait it out.

So he gave you Diflucan? Good ... if it bothers you, you might try cutting it in half for a day or two. I've done that.

Or I take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening.

Hope you will be doing well by the time Christmas gets here!!

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo >>>>>,

I've had the Diflucan before, this time they gave me only three, and a Nystatin cream twice a day.

Tomorrow,or Wed. depending on pricing,I'll be getting a different cream,as well. The Nystatin cannot be used internally. Not sure if it spread, but they said don't take a chance.

Thanks for the well wishes, I am really hoping that things are calmed down, by Wed. the Church play is Wed. evening. And I don't want to have to miss it. I can't get out but once maybe twice a week...so we'll see what happens.

I hope y'all have a wonderful Christmas, and that the weather calms down for you!

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo,and me >>>>>,

The Diflucan is to be used only every other day,as well. I too was wondering if it will be enough.

Course it itches to beat the band,so I wake up way to early... Aarghh....owOOowoo.

Thanks me, I'm hoping it relieves all the itching burning, peeling and pain as well. They say athletes get this a lot.

Oh sure, I'm an athlete, I do the Lyme Lurch shuffle trying to avoid running into walls, Try unsuccessfully not to trip over things like, our little dog, invisible dust bunnies, and furniture.

Why certainly, I do obstacle courses everyday. Hmm could be why I have two ankle braces, and a couple of wrist braces, that like to go into hiding when I need them... oops ... I think I might be just a wee bit uhm..sarcastic today. LOL

On a brighter note, I'll be so glad when this mess is over with, looking forward to starting the exercises from the book you sent ,me!

Thank you both, and each LymeNet family member who has replied, prayed, and wished good things for us!!!

Have you noticed a difference at all yet? I sure hope so.

Your sarcastic post made me giggle. I needed a giggle. But I'd rather not giggle and you feel better really soon!!! Actually, id like for you to feel better and I'd like to giggle

You and TrekCoord need to catch a break very soon--hoping things look up super soon. Thinking of the two of you.

Hi <<<<< me >>>>>,

Some parts of the rash are calming down, but other areas not so much. Thank you for asking, this has given me a good idea of what our husky mix was feeling, when she got a deep nerve itch[it is actually painful].

We were able to get her treatment for a time, but we lost her in 2012.I've talked about her on LymeNet a few times. We are both glad we got to have her for a couple more years. Her serious issues had started in 2010. And the treatment baths helped her.

Well,I better go for now. I hope you have a Merry Christmas, a Healthier New year, and a Joyous year to come!

The Sometimes Sarcastic Silverwolfi

My eyes, get really itchy and lots of sleep sludge crusting.I'm down to using cold filtered water around them, and a tiny bit of coconut oil underneath.

Some areas,Uhm where-upon I sit, are still misbehaving. And my old rug burn accident feels like it just happened. But the ointments and annointments [aww shucks, spell check doesn't like my new word, well tough!!!] are quite soothing.

TrekC' has an outside appointment, thru Choice Card program, finally, tho' past the time limit, to check his Cardio' issues. I told him he ought'ta record what the Non-VA doc' says. And see if the VA tries to twist this Doctor's DX [provided this Doc' isn't in league w/ them].

I am really hoping,it all calms down for both of us,and soon. I am glad you got a giggle out of my err...sarcasm! [Smile]

Them words just escape sometimes, when I am typing things out. They sorta' have a mind of their own. Oh, must be careful now,as we may be being spied upon [long story... Some day perhaps I can explain!].

Hi <<<<< LymeNet Family >>>>>,

Now that TrekC' is safely back home, time to update on the miserable rash.

Supposedly, it was a rough case of Athletes itch/yeast.

The three Diflucan caplets, and Nystatin, and Miconazole, are not being effective. Now it is spreading to inner thighs as well, blotchy itchy some welting. It is more like hives in that area.

Some of it calmed slightly for a bit,and is peeling still,a lot, like a huge rug burn in diaper area. I am cleaning toilets, towels and wash rags frequently. I don't want TrekC' to get anything that may be contagious.

I have an area of itch on my back and still by both eyes. Aarrghhh. ButTrekC' is home from the Hospital, and doing well so far so I am so Glad of that!!!

I am taking an antiyeast product, that Vit. Shoppe carries, and trying to avoid scratching.

Thak Y'all so much for tho'ts,Ideas, prayers and all.

I hope your Holidays, are Blessed with Joy!

Silverwolfi burning and stinging...

But hopefully it'll help... tried a home remedy,I was told it will sting ,but it will help.

Oh boy did it sting, and itch and I jumped[and I am not... er...athletic] and hollered, and only made it half the time before I rinsed it off. Well I hope it worked for all o' that, it'd make me much much happier.

Garlic and coconut oil, the oil helps, but doesn't resolve matters ,and I'll find out if the garlic helps [I used powdered capsules so we'll see]. I am running out of creams and options. Hey,
if it helps I'll try some on my back too.

No garlic near eyes tho', non, non,no and absolutely not. [Hmmm, non non no, perhaps I have more French blood than I tho't, weird stuff happens when I am tired.

I'll report back in Later. I'm so hoping this calms the rash, I've never had a rash go down my inner thighs like this.

Jus' another update...

I started treating this mess, after a UC appointment on the 19th.

It is the slowest rash to get rid of I have ever had. Still issues in the 'diaper area', and a bit around eyes, and several spots on back as well.

Wondering if it is two distinct rashes. still itches and stings, that coes and goes,so I can at least get some rest ,from time to time.

After whapping my head hard [info' on General Sup.] I'll likely be calling my PCP. probably wont get in for a while [weeks???]., But I can at least check in after a bit.

I've just never had a rash get so bad,and take so long to heal.

Oh an edit in here : while my brain babbles on forgetting things... I had a blister like pus pocket show up on the back of my hand of all places, it seems to be healing okay.

Silverwolfi updating yet again...
