Save CBD oil

[Mods: Can we please leave this in Medical, where it will be seen, at least this first post? Thank you!]

At the link there is an easy click on link to contact your Congresspeople. Please do so. It would be horrible to lose this important medicinal herb to Big Pharma. It's completely non-
psychoactive. Thank you!

"Save CBD Oil

BY ANH-USA ON JULY 11, 2017 STOP CRONY HEALTHCARE
We need to save this powerful pain reliever now. Action Alert!

Without urgent grassroots support, hurting Americans could lose pivotal access to CBD oil, a key natural pain medication. Momentum is building on Capitol Hill, but our voices must be heard.

In recent weeks we’ve been telling you about recent federal actions that threaten to restrict consumer access to affordable CBD oil—a derivative of the hemp plant that has no psychoactive properties.

Nevertheless, this natural supplement has come into the crosshairs of federal regulatory agencies, and we expect their continued pushback against the movement to maintain access to this vital treatment.

Legislation has recently been introduced that will take some important steps towards preserving CBD products.

The Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States (CARERS) Act, introduced by Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and Corey Booker (D-NJ), would allow the possession, production,

and distribution of medical marijuana and CBD in the 29 states (not including the District of Columbia) with established marijuana laws.

Importantly, the bill would also exclude CBD from the definition of marijuana. This helps clear up uncertainty and confusion in states where it is legal to possess and use CBD oil but illegal to produce it.

The bill also helps undo the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) recent action to classify CBD (short for cannabidiol) as a Schedule 1 controlled substance like heroin and LSD that has no medicinal benefit.

This is an absurd classification, particularly considering the fact that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has a patent on CBD oil that covers its use to protect the brain from degeneration and the treatment of diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

There are also thousands of published scientific studies on CBD and its beneficial health effects on pain, inflammation, seizures, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions.

Beyond the efforts in the Senate, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) has introduced the Legitimate Use of Medical Marijuana Act (HR 714) and the Compassionate Access Act (HR 715),

both aimed at removing federal obstacles that prevent patient access to CBD as well as medical marijuana. You can see our previous coverage for more details.

This legislation being discussed is a great first step, and we need to mobilize to provide our grassroots support. However, these bills do not address another threat to consumer access to CBD: FDA overreach.

Currently, CBD oil is available as a dietary supplement. But, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claims that CBD oil is not a dietary supplement because a drug company is investigating it for use in a new drug to treat a rare form of epilepsy.

The FDA has already sent out warning letters to companies marketing CBD oil supplements in anticipation of the new drug (currently in Phase III trials) coming to market.

If and when the drug is finally approved, the FDA will then likely become more aggressive against CBD oil supplements, and it will be game over for the hundreds of thousands of Americans that depend on the treatment.

Quite simply, CBD oil will become hard to obtain and unaffordable. The company that owns the drug will have a monopoly on CBD which it can use to jack up the price,

and a safe, natural medicine that was once widely available will be out of reach to those who can’t afford to visit a doctor and pay monopoly drug prices.

The FDA claims to be concerned about the prescription opioid epidemic that is claiming so many lives, but the move to ban CBD shows where the agency’s loyalties lie: with big drug companies, not with the public.

Action Alert! Write to Congress to support these bills, and ask them to direct the FDA to maintain CBD as a dietary supplement. Please send your message immediately."

It's such a shame...

Here in France I read government is pushing for compulsory vaccines in babies.

Where is the country of 'fraternite', liberte' et egalite'' ?

It's always just profit behind that all?

I don't get it. How can they patent a PLANT oil?

It's like patenting olive oil because it is healthy??

If this starts, we are doomed. Imagine if they start to do the same with cats claw, japanese knotweed and cryptolepsis and stuff like that?!

They know they are losing the battle to alternative and less harmful treatments, so now there is change in rules?

i thought plants could not be patented! no one created them!! Maybe that's where the whole industry will turn to now?!!

Haven't been here for a while... Thanks for posting. I'll do what I can.

Unless we are viligent about preserving our rights... They will outlaw things we use to keep ourselves healthy. Not really sure where all this comes from - GMOs, vaccines, pollution, etc. but we have to keep asserting our rights to clean air, water, food, herbal medicines...

It's been going on for centuries. They burned alot of people at the stake due to witch hunts, inquisitions... Same ole, same old...

Yes, the number of natural remedies that helped me (& many, many others, of course) over the decades that have been outlawed, so I had to suffer horribly is many, many. I'm talking about things like a

fabulous combo of herbs, homeopathy, magnesium B vitamins that helped pain tremendously, including migraines---long gone. They made the company take out the things that made it no longer work.

And on and on, kava kava spray, l-tryptophan for a long time, etc., etc.

I very much rely on CBD products, which help a lot with pain without all the horrible side-effects of the blasted drugs (which I need anyway due to the horrific CRPS/RSD pain). But CBD helps me to not use the meds until late at night.

Our lovely government has several patents out on CBD oil. But if the Big Pharma co gets it's way with the orphan drug approval, we're sunk---they are VERY, VERY expensive, and surely wouldn't be the

whole plant with all it's constituents anyway. Arghh! I'm so sick of profits before people and all the suffering that it entails.

PLEASE, PLEASE take the time to go to the link to your congresspeople. Thank you!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We should have access to ALL available safe & effective treatments.

The government keeps creating new laws with the intention to stop/ prevent addiction. Sad thing is, the laws have no impact on addicts! Instead they are preventing patients with real chronic pain conditions (medically documented) from getting any help!!!

Addicts get their drugs, etc from illegal means, not real physicians!!! They differ from chronic pain patients in that they don't simply want relief of pain, they typically have great need/desire to seek "high".

Addicts also willing to risk death taking illegal drugs, not knowing if they may be too powerful, harmful for humans, or simply toxic...

Of course, addiction "crisis" was not solved by previous gov't restrictions. Now continue to add more laws!

Chronic pain (terminal cancer) patients have been the greatest impacted so far. Most now denied treatment with opioids.

Lucky few already in treatment have had their RX doses, frequently, & quantitiy of pain meds drastically reduced.

Previously, with appropriate treatment, chronic pain sufferers were expected to regain & have good quality of life. Now they are told expect no more than 10% reduction in pain & no improvement in quality of life!

The above might not have meant anything to you. But you or loved one has probably had Major Surgery or suffered multiple severe injuries & fractures after an accident?

Well, they now they are saying that these effective pain relievers have "no place in medicine".

Scary.

All these laws being made by people who know nothing about medicine & healthcare.

Rumigirl, how do you use CBD with traditional medicine? Can you tell me more? Email or call? If you've found it safe & effective then I should consider trying it.

Thanks!!!

Just urged my Senator to vote NO on the Carers Act and I hope President Trump vetoes it if it ever gets out of committee.

This is the second time around for a failed bill (it was introduced last year and it failed then), and back then it was even more extreme,

moving marijuana from a schedule 1 to a schedule 2 drug. They knew that would never pass so they removed that part.

Regardless, I am not a believer in all this 'medical marijuana' fluffery for Lyme. It does nothing for Lyme. It will not cure your lyme in the least and it will leave you with a new costly drug habit you are addicted to.

The OP here frequently mentions it in every post, and every time makes vague references to other mental conditions it is supposedly helping for. Seems dubious at best.

I haven't seen anything for my pain ..sad

But I'm not sure if I'm getting legit CBD oil..

I've tried three different companies

But I hate to think they are all rip offs

And I don't want to try to a bottle of $400 worth only to have it not work

.
.

.
I also tried the THC edibles stuff for pain.. nothing really did anything for my pain and I wouldn't want to be high like that 24 hours a day, OMG because my pain is non stop all day long hahah

So either I'm doing something wrong
Or I'm not going to legit places

Can anyone explain or help

I watched a show recently where the guest said CBD truly helped her son with depression (he was suicidal).

Fight to keep this available for everyone! No one knows what their future holds (or their children, or grandchildren's), so preserve your and theirs to this natural substance. Don't let big pharma win this one, it's too important!

sammy, I will email or call; it may really help you. Of course, everyone is different in terms of what works for them. Also, different sources are different. I've only tried one source so far, but it does help me quite a bit. It's not always enough, but I hate the side-effects of

the Lyrica or gabpentin (Lyrica is the worst for the side-effects, but it works better for me); it's stronger and lasts longer. Eventually, at night I have to take the Lyrica.

I am not sure what you are talking about , saying, " The OP here frequently mentions it in every post, and every time makes vague references to other mental conditions it is supposedly helping for. Seems dubious at best."

I've mentioned CBD oil maybe once before, if that. I've never said anything about it helping mental conditions.

As I mentioned in the original post, CBD oil is NOT at all psychoactive. There has to be .03% or less of THC, which is the psychoactive constituent.

Most, if not all, of the CBD oil is made from hemp, which contains the amount of THC listed above or less.

Perhaps, you should learn more about it before making such judgements.

I can only assume that you don't suffer from really severe pain, which I have for my entire adult life, with it only becoming greater and greater with multiple severe conditions

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, aka, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, is known to be the most painful condition that exists, worse than amputation. It is known as "the suicide disease" for good reason.

Do you really prefer that people suffer so much that they consider suicide to taking a harmless herb (CBD oil)? That is what you appear to be lobbying for without knowing it.

BTW, CBD oil is also used very successfully for kids with Dravet's, which is an intractable seizure condition that doesn't respond to any of the seizure meds. These tiny kids have sometimes hundreds of seizures.

Do you really think it is better to deny them this herb, so that they suffer so horribly with nothing that works?

No one said that CBD oil cures Lyme. But when one is suffering this much, remedies are needed so that the suffering is relieved as much as possible. Try walking in my shoes, or that of many on here, before judging so harshly.

One more thing: neither CBD oil, nor medical cannabis, which I have not mentioned, is addictive. Again, you need to educate yourself on the issue more before making pronouncements.

What is addictive is opiods, which still are needed for various conditions. But CBD or medical cannabis can help relieve pain, so opiods are either not needed, or needed less.

It can even help treat and relieve the opiod crisis that is such a scourge.

Christopher, with regard to your remarks - one doctor on the recent Chronic Lyme summit is using hemp cannabis from Europe to successfully treat Lyme pain and other symptoms,

and the Sacred Plant summit mentioned several applications for it re very Lyme-sounding conditions. I'd suggest you learn some more about it.

The Sacred Plant series is still going on - every Tuesday there's another episode - not Lyme-related, just cannabis-related, but there are some overlaps, in my opinion.

I will be writing my legislators after seeing this post.

And, I'd like to add my two cents on CBD and medical cannabis:

Even back in the 80's it was given to a relative who had cancer--altho then it wasn't considered 'medical' then.

She could not keep anything down because of the chemo and was falling away to nothing.

One drag from a cannabis cigarette and she was able to eat.

Cannabis or marijuana is one of those things that most of us were raised to believe was evil---I for one.

But once I started learning and being receptive to it, my mind opened.

If we were all raised to believe that parsley was evil, we'd believe it! It's called conditioning and in some cases brainwashing.

I'd much rather be treated with CBD oil or cannabis than I would an expensive pill cooked up in some lab.

And I do have my medical cannabis permit in-hand waiting for supply to arrive. [Smile]
