it looks like my nephew got bit by a tick. There is a rash on his back. I read the info on www.treatthebite.com and it recommends doxy and if not tolerated amox plus probencid.
Is amox with probenecid better than minocycline?

My personal opinion is that minocycilne is better than amoxicillin- but I haven't heard about probencid. Maybe it makes the amoxy work better? I took just amoxy and it didn't work.

UPDATE: Preface this to say they are in Mississippi.
1) The doctor gave him three weeks of doxycycline, 75mg twice a day. She did not want to give him mega doses.
2) On there own they gave him 200mg with this lunch and it made his stomach hurt. They then got another 100mg in him at dinner and he seemed to handle it fine. So 300mg on the first day.
3)They plan is to give him 200 mg per day for two weeks rather than 150 that doctor said.
4)Following three weeks at 150mg a day.
Total of five weeks, with some of it at elevated doses(200 per day (2 weeks), 150 per day (3 weeks)
The rash has faded.
Doctor wants to treat it as a tick bite but she has never seen a bite like this because it was perfectly circle with a dot in the middle.
They hope it was a STARI bite, which is lyme-ish but has not proven to be as nasty as lyme.
She took one lab, which is some screener test. She said it tests for 6 different things and it very sensitive. It checks for some enzymes. If he pops positive, then test again for more specific stuff.
Any opinions on whether this treatment plan is agressive/good enough? He is small so does he need the same levels of abx as us bigger people? (I have never understood why someone twice my size takes the same amount I do)

Please add a strong probiotic to the mix as the medications will also hit the bacteria of the gut and you (he) needs to replace this bacteria (we use Theralic and just order from Amazon).
Also with Doxy one must avoid the sun. Doryx is a time release version of Doxy and is easier on the stomach (and of course more expensive).
