My LLMD just took me off rocephin (I'm still on ketek) and put me on artemesia and milk thistle. I'm taking the artemesia in something called Para-Factors, which has other 'supportive' herbs.

I started about 5 days ago, and so far I don't notice any major changes, herx or improvement wise. I think I might feel a little less crummy overall, but that tends to wax and wane anyway.

There has been one thing: Last night when I went to bed I started getting a weird prickly, itchy feeling in my lower legs and feet. This morning, I woke up with an insanely itchy roundish rash on the inside of my elbow. (I don't think it looks like a bullseye ... its about 2 inches across and solid.)

I put some benadryl lotion on it, and it stopped itching, though it's still there.

For more than a year, I've had a "permanent" rash made up of red pinpoints on both shins. Sometimes it just sits there, sometimes it itches like mad.

I tend to manifest my allergy problems through skin (itching, hives, etc.) and have my whole adult life.

So, long background to two questions:

1. If I do have babs, what should I expect to see w/ the artemesia? (BTW, I'm taking one Para-factor and will double that in 4 days.)

2. Could this new rash thing be babs/artemesia related? (Or maybe I could just have been bit by a spider or something during the night.)

Thanks!

There seem to be alot of skin issues with Lyme.

Some may be from the bacteria itself, while other (rashes) can be from the hypersenstivities that seem to develop after long term chronic inflammation (allergies)takes hold.
Then there can be a true allergic reaction to some abx that manifest with rashes.

And a rash can be the sequale to a viral infection.

So-it's very hard to tell what's what after a while.

For me - If a rash itches - welts up, and is dynamic, and it can be controlled by a H2 blocker (histamine 2 receptor)... then that's an allergic reaction.

It it's static, non itching, then it's systemic, does not respond to a H2 blocker then I suspect Lyme
(for me, Lyme rashes don't itch and receeds with abx.)

You already know the answer to your question. It can be lots of things.

I'd suggest trying to finding a form of artemesia without other herbs in case it's an allergic reaction to one of the other herbs.

When I started artemisinin (my understanding is that artemisinin comes from the artemesia plant) I had vertigo and dizziness. That was my biggest and most obvious reaction and it lasted about a month.
