Hey all, This is my first time to post a topic but this was really stumping me.
I've been on doxy 100mg 3X daily for almost 4 months. Just survived the fall allergy season here and a week ago started getting a popping and shooting pain in my ear. Had lots of congestion for months.
Its a flashback to being a little kid with an earache. Sure enough, my FP says its an ear infection. This may seem obvious to some but do folks get other types of infections while on antibiotics?
For those of you on more than one antibiotic, can you take them at the same time or should they be separate. I'm taking doxy and now amoxicillin for the ear.
Any thoughts are welcome.

I also wanted to add that 3 wks. ago I developed a bladder infection. I'm also on doxy and had to add cipro for 7 days.
I wonder why that happens?

Most people do not realize that there are beneficial bacteria in your ear canal (in the wax), nose and throat, lungs, etc........ not just the intestines.
IMO this is an extrememly important topic, that's pretty much ignored on many lists.
Long term abx can disrupt the balance- and other opportunistic bacteria can overgrow... giving you an ear ache, sore throat, etc..
You probably need to give some major attention to restoring your micro flora balance.

Barb, Thanks for the reply. Is micro flora perhaps in smaller places than the intestines? I take several types of probiotics in between abx doses. How would one replenish your ears or sinuses. Makes sense, just never thought of it. Any feedback is welcome. Posts: 460 | From Illinois | Registered: Aug 2005
