I'm starting Chlorella today. What should I expect?

An integrative medicine specialist has me taking it, along with Hepatica and Solidago. He said Chlorella alone will bind the toxins/metals, but the others are needed to move them out of the body. I'm taking it because I showed a high sensitivity to aluminum. He also said it will help clear general toxins from the lyme treatment.

My LLMD told me to take only 1/4 of the dose the integrative med specialist said to take because it will cause a flare. I'm trying to figure out if it is better to take a low dose 3 times a day, or a high dose once a day. Once a day is easier, because I don't eat regular meals.

And what kind of flare should I expect? Will it be GI related, fatigue, or general lyme symptoms?

Hepatica tastes awful...it's liquid drops I put in water. I'm not looking forward to the Solidago drops post lunch. [Razz]

I've been taking Chlorella for awhile. The first few times I took it I got a bad headache, but now I don't. I also started out slower then the doctor prescribed. Instead of 4 a day, I started with one a day(tablets), then worked my way up. I'm glad I did.

I also use it before I go into my infarred sauna for better chelation.

Good luck,
Lisi

I'm not sure if it's random or related, but I took my first dose before lunch, about an hour and a half ago.

I get motor tics and I'm moving like crazy now. My legs won't stop bouncing.

This may sound strange, but when I took it at first I did feel as though I was herxing from it, I remember a headache and some muscle twitching especially in my thighs. You reminded me of it when you said (legs) Oh boy, it was bad.

Maybe when its chelating the heavy metals it give you a herx???

I hope you feel better and it passes quickly.

Thanks for this thread --

I'm just about to order some chlorella myself, so this is a big help!

I'm pretty sure I have heavy metal issues (and not *just* because I was a headbanger as a teenager, lol) --- not only from the lyme and the terrible environment, chemtrails, etc. but also because I am an artist -- and when I was younger I never paid any heed to the warnings about toxicity of paint, pastel, etc. So I am likely full of cadmium, cobalt, titanium, etc. more than the average person with lyme, even.

If you are taking just chlorella, it should be tolerable. I have not experienced any "herx" from it. It is a binding agent. When you do other things like Cilantro or metal mobilizing agents, you can have some exacerbation of symptoms from the mobilized metals. That has to be done carefully. Otherwise, chlorella should be a relatively easy one.

My Cadmium was extremely high, I do think it was because I had alot of exposure to spray paints and stains (I do alot faux finishing) I'm an artist also.

I do think the chlorella is helping to get rid of that stuff. I can't wait till I have another analysis done to find out if it changed.

I've never taken other Cilantro or other metal mobilizing agents. My doc wanted me to take DMSA but I was always to scared too. I've heard things about it. Plus my son took it and it made him "a little out of it" (hard to explain)

The use of Chlorella in heavy metal detox and detox in general for binding or mop-up of the various neurotoxins originates with Dr. K. Here from his website www.neuraltherapy.com/articles:

"Chlorella:

Both C.pyreneidosa (better absorption of toxins, but harder to digest) and C.vulgaris (higher CGF content - see below, easier to digest, less metal absorbing capability) are available. Chlorella has multiple health inducing effects:

* Antiviral (especially effective against the cytomegaly virus from the herpes family)
* Toxin binding (mucopolysaccharide membrane)
all known toxic metals, environmental toxins such as dioxin and others
* Repairs and activates the bodys detoxification functions:
* Dramatically increases reduced glutathion,
* Sporopollein is as effective as cholestyramin in binding neurotoxins and more effective in binding toxic metals then any other natural substance found.
* Various peptides restore coeruloplasmin and metallothioneine,
* Lipids (12.4 %) alpha-and gamma-linoleic acid help to balance the increased intake of fish oil during our detox program and are necessary for a multitude of functions, including formation of ther peroxisomes.
* Methyl-coblolamine is food for the nervous system, restores damaged neurons and has ist own detoxifying efect.
* Chlorella growth factor helps the body detoxify itself in a yet not understood profound way. It appears that over millions of years chlorella has developed specific detoxifying proteins and peptides for every existing toxic metal.
* The porphyrins in chlorophyl have their own strong metal binding effect. Chlorophyll also activates the PPAR-receptor on the nucleus of the cell which is responsible for the transcription of DNA and coding the formation of the peroxisomes (see fish oil), opening of the cell wall (unknown mechanism) which is necessary for all detox procedures, normalizes insulin resistance and much more. Medical drugs that activate the PPAR receptor (such as pioglitazone) have been effective in the treatment of breast and prostate cancer.

* Super nutrient: 50-60% aminoacid content, ideal nutrient for vegetarians, methylcobolamin - the most easily absorbed and utilized form of B12, B6, minerals, chlorophyll, beta carotene etc.
* Immune system strengthening
* Restores bowel flora
* Digestive aid (bulking agent)
* Alkalinizing agent (important for patients with malignancies)

Dosage: start with 1 gram (=4 tabl) 3-4 times/day. This is the standard maintainance dosage for grown ups for the 6-24 months of active detox. During the more active phase of the detox (every 2-4 weeks for 1 week), whenever cilantro is given, the dose can be increased to 3 grams 3-4 times per day (1 week on, 2-4 weeks back down to the maintainance dosage). Take 30 minutes before the main meals and at bedtime. This way chlorella is exactly in that portion of the small intestine where the bile squirts into the gut at the beginning of the meal, carrying with it toxic metals and other toxic waste. These are bound by the chlorella cell wall and carried out via the digestive tract.

When amalgam fillings are removed, the higher dose should be given for 2 days before and 2-5 days after the procedure (the more fillings are removed, the longer the higher dose should be given). No cilantro should be given around the time of dental work. During this time we do not want to moblize deeply stored metals in addition to the expected new exposure. If you take Vitamin C during your detox program, take it as far away from Chlorella as possible (best after meals).

Side effects: most side effects reflect the toxic effect of the mobilized metals which are shuttled through the organism. This problem is instantly avoided by significantly increasing the chlorella dosage, not by reducing it, which would worsen the problem (small chlorella doses mobilize more metals then are bound in the gut, large chlorella doses bind more toxins then are mobilized). Some people have problems digesting the cell membrane of chlorella.

The enzyme cellulase resolves this problem. Cellulase is available in many health food stores in digestive enzyme products. Taking chlorella together with food also helps in some cases, even though it is less effective that way. C.vulgaris has a thinner cell wall and is better toerated by people with digestive problems.

Chlorella Growth Factor

This is a heat extract from chlorella that concentrates certain peptides, proteins and other ingredients. The research on CGF shows that children develop no tooth decay and their dentition (maxillary-facial development) is near perfect. There are less illnesses and children grow earlier to a larger size with higher I.Q and are socially more skilled. There are case reports of patients with dramatic tumor remissions after taking CGF in higher amounts. In our experience, CGF makes the detox experience for the patient much easier, shorter and more effective.
Recommended dosage: 1 cap. CGF for each 20 tabl.chlorella"

During die-off of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, parasites, yeast/fungi) heavy metals that were held by these are being mobilized and should not be interpreted as a herxheimer. I recently posted his personal comments about these facts.

I lived with Chlorella for a few years and got well with Chlorella as a support remedy.

Take care.

I am using Chlorella also. Interesting thread.
The first time I took it, I got a headache and my eyes became very sensitive to the light.

It seemed to help my IBS symptoms also, but I couldn't take the headaches anymore so I stopped until I started to get out my mercury fillings.

Now I take a lot of the stuff when I do my Vit C IV and it really does help.

My experience goes together with SForsgren's saying. I take some chlorella beside the herbs and didn't feel strong reactions ever.

I love chlorella.

Been on it for several months now.

I noticed an immediate reduction in paresthesias (tingly-crawling sensations)in my face.

Helps my gut too I think- very regular while on chlorella...an added benefit.

I just started taking Sun Chlorella on Monday. I'm hoping someone has something good to say about this product. I've been off abx for quite some time, and live a quite normal life. But feel I need to address the detox issue more. So far, so good.

http://www.sunchlorellausa.com/our_products/sunchlorella_tablets.htm

Sun Chlorella is a high quality and balanced nutritional supplement rich in various nutrients. Sun Chlorella contains nutrients in green and yellow vegetable such as essential amino acids, protein, minerals, vitamins, chlorophyll and carotene that are essential to healthy body. Above all, 60% of protein is contained which is not found in most food.

And because we use Chlorella pyrenoidosa (SUN CHLORELLA strain) that is cultivated outdoors, our chlorella extract contains much chlorella growth factor (C. G. F.). Our unique and patented technology succeeds in breaking down the cell walls by at 95%, thereby solving the

only remaining problem of tough cell walls that hindered digestion and absorption. Hence this product is sure to satisfy not only first-time users, but also those who experienced dissatisfaction with conventional chlorella products or other health foods. Also available in granule form.

Usage:
Granules: You begin taking 1/4 the packet/sleeve a day the first week, increasing to 1/2 the packet/sleeve the second week, and then increasing to 1 packet/sleeve a day the third week.

Day 2. I'm nauseous, my head feels heavy, and I've got brain fog. I just took the chlorella about 1.5 hours ago. I was fine before I took it.

I'm hoping this means it's doing something. We'll see if it gets better with time.

Aniek, sorry to hear you're suffering from it. Gigi just posted about the fact that sometimes you need to take more chlorella to lower side effects.

I am taking chlorella for a few weeks now, I'm also becoming a fan of it. But I feel some heart symptoms (pressure?) and some air hunger coming (or a lot, depending on the amount I take). I feel dizzy sometimes, but sometimes it's the opposite (I'm tired and after chlorella get much better).

Sorry if I can't be precise. I'm still new on it. One thing is sure: if you take much less than what you need, you won't get the positive feeling.

I am loaded with mercury (after amalgam removal), and was taking 20 pellets a day, too low. I'm now on 50 pellets a day, and I still feel it could be too low.

Are you taking sulphur? I think chlorella mobilizes metals and then binds to them, but when mobilizing you may feel symptoms coming. Sulphur may help on that too.

I also find lymphatic drainage helpful, it calms down. I got high blood pressure from amalgam removals, and it lowered now after increasing the chlorella dose. So I was getting jitterness, like you.

Be careful with heart symptoms. It seems that mercury loves the heart!

the basic problem with metal detox, I think, is dosage. Every person is different. And it changes as you detoxify...

Hope you get better!
Selma

Thanks Selma. I'm going to increase by a capsule every few days. The integrative med specialist said to take it 3 times a day, but I don't know if I can do that and still take my meds since I've heard it can bind with meds.

I really don't think I've got a lot of metals to detox. I showed a high sensitivity to aluminum and formaldehyde in a blood test. I think the formaldehyde is from construction at work. Hair test didn't show aluminium toxicity.

But I'm hoping it generally helps to detox.
