I just found out that I have POTS. I knew I had some kind of parasympathetic nervous system disorder but didn't know it was also called POTS.

Does this mean I have a heart condition?? Should I be worried about dropping dead of a heart attack? Yikes.

Hi,

I don't have POTS but I have NCS (neurocardiogenic syncope) and both are forms of Dysautonomia.

POTS is a neurological syndrome that is usually caused by problems with the vagus nerve. Lyme affects the vagus nerve in quite a few cases so there are a lot of us with forms of Dysautonomia.

So it isn't your heart that's really the problem, it's your brain telling your heart what to do.

You should read up more info on it. Here are some good website on POTS and Dysautonomia in general:

http://www.potsplace.com
http://www.dynakids.org
http://www.lymeinfo.net/autonomic.html

I hope that helps you!

Peace and healing,
Annie

Hi, I also have POTS. A very good support web site is http://dinet.ipbhost.com/index.php?showforum=1

There are several people who are on dinet who are also on this site.

Joining the dinet group would be a great place to start and learn about POTS.

I know personaly how scarry it was to be diagnosed with POTS. But learning about what is actually going on and getting treatment from a knowledgable doctor has taken much of the fear out of it.

Take Care

Wow...thanks for the info. I can't tell if Lyme causes Dysautonomia or if my problem has been Dysautonomia the entire time! The symptoms are almost the same as Lyme. How could one know if it is Lyme or POTS or both?!?!?

Do either of you see a specialist for your condition? Right now I am just seeing my internist who is also my LLMD. Just curious...

My llmd is helping me with my blood pressure problems. With on-going treatment it is getting better.

Hang in there, there is hope.
