I have good insurance through my union, but now have to pay into it (350 month) and am looking into new insurance. I am awaiting a disability award (soon) but don't think medicaid will cover any of these LLMD's or the blood tests. My LLMD does not take it, but I can bill my present insurance and get partial reiumbursement from them. They also cover blood work.

Does anyone know a good lead on a new insurance company for me that would be less than what I am paying now? I have a CFIDS diagnosis (though I have Lyme).

Thanks for any help at all.

Chris

what are your options? Is this employer sponsored? HMO is typically NOT the way to go---no reimbursement for lyme stuff including refusing to treat, refusing to pay for prescribed meds.

No, I am self employed and will have disability reward in a few weeks, but don't think I should get Medicaid because of the coverage.

I am open to any plan. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Chris, it sounds pretty good from what you have posted. You CAN continue on it for $300/month; is that correct?

You have PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS now and many insurances will not touch you with a 10 ft. pole.

I'd hate to see you lose what you presently have.

My good BCBS group retiree insurance allows me to pay $250 max on my RX meds; so mine was paid up in MARCH; 9 months of free prescriptions.

My LLMD bills so far have NOT been paid; in fact, I called & found out Friday; supr. had been sitting on these for 2.5 months and NOT SUBMITTED them at all! Someone is to call me back this week.

My LLMD OPTED OUT OF MEDICARE; so doesn't handle any insurance papers nor submit to medicare SO I CAN'T TOO! So far $3500 paid out of pocket.

Plus the $700 supplemental meds she put me on is NOT covered for 1 months worth if that much! I just opened the bottles; so I am just learning $$.

Yes I can continue on at $350 a month, but then have to pay half my LLMD visits and supplements.

Do most LLMD's give receipts to bill medicaid (is this what you receive with disablility?) and does Medicaid pay any percentage back?

How is medicaid with IV's or long term oral abx?

Anyone?

Thanks!

Chris

It depends on what type of disability you are referring to.

If you are awaiting an award from SSDI you will get Medicare, after a while. Medicare does cover most of my blood work. [Big Grin]

SSI is the one that goes with Medicaid, which will probably get you absolutely nowhere with an LLMD.

When you are on Medicare you should be able to get Medicare supplementary insurance through your union, assuming it's like most other groups, and that would probably cost you less.

I'm retired, as of age 51, due to Lyme, and I get my insurance through my former employer, the county school system.

Once they finally got their heads out of where the sun don't shine I was able to reduce my payment by about half. You are doing well if you only pay $350 a month.

Whatever you do, don't let go of that insurance unless you absolutely, positively know you have something else better.

I have a friend who's disabled by MS (Lyme, in my opinion) and after her COBRA ran out from her divorce she's without any insurance. Now she needs a new knee...
