I hear it should be three caps three times a day...but some caps have 1 billions and some have 50 bill.

Theralac is once a day and has 20 bill I think.

What are you taking in terms of billions (not caps).

Thanks

I need to know your question too.

I have been taking four, 2billion Quest acidophilius tablets daily, but I don't think it is enough because I now have thrush and I think a yeast problem just 3 weeks into the ABX.

Not all acidophilus is created equal....that's for sure!! I think the 20 billion by Theralac is enough for us. I take one capsule per day from Theralac, then toss in a few PB8's when I think I need more.

What works for some doesn't work for otheres

the PP8's didn't work at all for me.

When I was on abx for 3 years I found I really couldn't take too much.

But in saying that some people get bad gas from too much. So then again whats good for one isn't good for everyone

Sorry human to be so obtuse with my answer.

PB8 is a brand of probiotics.

Yogurt varies by brand, and type within brand.

I spoke to my LLMD recently about this and we decided it was best to take 2 different brands with different types of probiotics in it. Different brands have different types of bacteria and reach different parts of the intestines.

I take one called Acidophilus Pearls with 1 billion CFU of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum.

An integrative medicine doc recommended the Pearls because they are enteric coated and are best at reaching the lower intestine. They are also coated in a way that they don't need refrigeration, and with my schedule that's a necessity.

I just ordered Therelac at my LLMD's advice. When that comes, I'll drop the pearls to 2 a day.

I also recently started using Candida Cleanse by Zand. It's not a probiotic. It's a blend of herbs that are antifungal and are supposed to make a better environment for the probiotics to grow. I've notice a real reduction in thrush when starting their yeast eradication dose (two capsules three times daily).

Antifungal meds stopped working with me, and I can't follow a yeast diet because too much protein makes me sick.

I think yogurt is useless. Never did anything but cause me to have worse yeast.

The PB8 is not very good...I agree....but I have some left over and will finish it out.

Are there any others that work?? I wasn't impressed with the pearls either.

The one I use that works the best for me after using several brands is....

Udo's Super 8. It has 30 billion per cap.
It is expensive so I take one a day, and in the evening after 2nd dose of antibiotics I take my

Homemade yogurt.

I would like to find an enteric coated probiotic to take in the evening, but one without FOS in it.

FOS does not agree with me, PB8 I think has the FOS in it.

FOS makes my bowels ferment, always has.

Homemade yogurt is FABULOUS. I ferment it 24 hours. I use the Udos's super 8 for a starter for the homemade yogurt.

Sometimes, if I need a switch in antibiotics, and the lyme starts to get worse, probiotics make me

worse. Lyme is affecting my digestive system, where it is, wether in the small intestine, or stomach, or lower bowel, I do not know, but it is in my digestive system,

so, candida can get worse if my lyme is worse.

A timely thread, this one is.

I just started on abx last Wednesday - only 500mg zith daily and, despite probiotics and homemade kefir I STILL ended up tied to the bathroom for three days. Really embarrassing to have to get up from the front of church in the middle of the sermon on Sunday! [shake]

What stopped it was the Udo's mentioned by Health. I'm taking one of those (30 billion) at night before bed as well as 3 Jarro-Dophilus EPS (13.2 billion total in the three) shortly after lunch.

Did that yesterday along with 3 cups of kefir in the afternoon and today was the first day my GI tract is normal.

A few supplements you may be taking can be counterproductive to the treatment of dysbiosis and are mentioned here so you can avoid them. Iron supplements feed unfriendly bacteria and protozoan parasites.26 Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) also feed some unfriendly bacteria, especially Klebsiella pneumoniae, hemolytic E. coli, Bacteroides species, and Staphylococcus aureus.27 As mentioned above, protozoal parasites ``eat" bacteria, so your doctor may advise you to avoid probiotics during the course of anti-parasitic treatment. Cysteine, glycine, and glutathione, while important antioxidants, can stimulate the growth of yeast in some patients with candidiasis.28 If you are taking botanical remedies for dysbiosis, your doctor may tell you to temporarily avoid all antioxidants because botanical medicines kill parasites and bacteria by oxidizing them, and thus, antioxidants reduce the effectiveness of these remedies.29

Trish / Health,

I just sent you a PM re. yogurt. I have some questions for you.

I also just ordered the theralac after reading this post.

I have been using Jarrow-dophilus EPS for years, with 4 billion per cap and enteric coated (plus doesn't need to be refrigerated). I just went to pick some up in the store and the price has gone up about $5 to about $20 for a 2 week supply for me (I take 4 per day). I was going to order it online when I came across this thread. I have been wanting to tryh the theralac for some time anyway,

I personaly think that the Jarrow EPS is great. But it might not be since 1/2 my sx could be attributed to yeast. Anybody else have experience with it?

I take 25 to 50 billion a day.

I take Bio K and/or culturelle.

I switch them around because they have different stuff in them.

This is one of the best proactive things I have done for my body.

The other three, in my opinion so far, (other than abx) are
1. metal detox, especially fillings
2. chlorella, to bind the heavy metals and toxins so they can be eliminated, otherwise they just keep traveling around and around in your system
3. colonics -- also to get the bugs out, the die-off out, and not have it reabsorbed through the colon.

Thats my two cents worth ........

I agree with the above posters.

taking different brands and then switching them around has helped me the most.

Lately the pearls and theralac along with

UAS labs.... "DDS-plusacidophilus Bifidus-FOS"

I take all 3 2XD.

Figure I take about 30-40 billion a day. But I am not on abx right now.

Trying to re-populate my GI tract.

*And also not counting every time I brush my teeth I sprinkle a capsule of kryo-dophilus.

Hang in there human [group hug]

make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD

Thanks for all the input. I just ordered more theralac. And I always have pearls and several other brands in the fridge to take when I remember.

So maybe 20 to 30 billion can be a daily goal. I have a full cup of stonyfield plain yogurt at bedtime.

I have an appointment with a naturopathic dentist in dec. to remove the five huge amalgams in my mouth.

Afraid of colonics...

Thanks - Love you guys
