we saw a duck at the walk in clinic cuz the wait is better and its one clinic where the ducks are actually sympathetic.
plus there's less people so not so much of a chance of picking up goodies like at the hospital.
so we showed the rash on the palms and got 2 weeks of doxycyclien 100 mg a day. the duck was not sure what it was and referred us to an infectious disease doc,
she said it could be rocky fever and gave doxy not to take any chances.
anyhow soo now we're waitint to see a specialist and im herxing and feeling brutal
my mail box is now open if anyone wants to send any p,ms

Your herxing on 100mg a DAY? Wow.

Doxy can usually be taken in higher doeses. But you will need more then 2 weeks worth, especially if its effecting you this way.

Find a doctor who will treat you longer, and get a Western Blot.

Get plenty of rest and drink alot of water.

That's possible, OR......

A rash on the palms could be Parvovirus B19
antibiotic won't help that.

Hi!
I don't know your history but 200 mg per day of Doxycycline will not be enough to treat Lyme. This is why it is so essential to see a LLMD. I hope the person who said "...have you been to an ID doc yet?" was joking, because thats the worst idea possible! Educate yourselves on the ILADS/IDSA war and it will become clear there is truth and there is evil in the Lyme community.

Doses of Doxy start the day you have been bit by a tick, and go up to 600 mg per day, usually starting at 400 mg per day. Are you being tested for RMSF?

It is a good idea to get to a LLMD ASAP. I realize these things take time. In the mean time, you should bring a copy of the ILADS Lyme treatment guidelines to your doctor up there and request to be treated accordingly. At least get the correct doxycycline dose and for long enough! Tell your doctor that the risks of inadequate treatment are far superior than the risk to prescribing doxy for long enough to get you in to see a good LLMD. Educate them, and if they wont listen, move on to another one..any nice doctor who could be willing to listen and help you. Try to stay strong okay. [Smile]

Let us know!

Condor :
A lot of people CAN NOT tolerate the herx that a high dose ( 400 mg) doxy causes . They would be literally in danger . I had to start at 100 , and was desperately sick and almost an invalid with THAT dose for 8 months .

It took almost ten months to be able to tolerate 200 mg .

I personally doubt that severe herxes get you well any faster as it taxes the immune sysytem and often results in secondary infections.

Also , there are some risks of taking doxy at a high dose for lengthy periods of time . It is not easy on the liver .

There are folks who take lower doses of ABX and even pulse them every other day . I do not really think there is a RIGHT way that fits EVERYONE .
It is good that you were able to tolerate the SUPER HIGH doses without serious problems .
Lots of people can not .

Hope you are gettting close to being well !

Lynn, I hope that you can get to a doctor to have a RMSF test done in Canada before you go to the LLMD in the US.

I am told that the RMSF test in Canada is reliable and you have the bonus not having to pay out of pocket for it up here.

Take advantage of what you can get for free! [Smile]
