I had to stop IV rocephin this week after only two months, which was not my LLMDs plan (insurance stopped paying).

I was put on omnicef and took my second dose this a.m. It is TOTALLY kicking my butt. I feel drunk, tired, in pain, like my head is full of cotton, my jaw feels odd, nerve pain is worse, and I just generally really lousy.

I've been in treatment for a long time and had many oral abx before now, but have never had omnicef before. This is the worse herx than I had with any other oral, and different than with rocephin.

I was wondering if there's a specific reason for LLMDs to prescribe it (I didn't get a chance to talk with mine as it happened 'administratively' as a result of the insurance problem).

I guess I'm trying to figure out if it 'means' anything that I'm herxing this badly so soon.

Omnicef is a cephalosporin cell wall drug like ceftin, IM bicillin and the IV rocephin and IV claforan.

From the Saturday symposium binder and slide presentation.

"For the severely ill patient, if multiple IC co-inf's present, consider a cell wall drug (omnicef) with plaquenil + tetracycline (mino, doryx), + macrolide (zith). The regimen will cover cell wall, cystic, and IC forms. After 1-2 months pulse down the cell wall drug and add a more potent cystic drug (tindamax or flagyl)

Add B6 50 mg 3X/day, plus methylcobalamine. Leave the patients on nystatin, high dose probiotics."

My son actually has been on omnicef for many months with his mepron & zith and now he has added flagyl. This is month 21 of his treatment.

I was on Omnicef and Ketek at the beginning of my treatment and it made a huge difference in how I felt in the long run.

Hang in there. The first few herxes were tough, but they get easier and you'll feel better over all.

Thanks, all. I'm thinking I've got a lot of bugs in my brain ... I feel like I'm in space. And the pain, everywhere, wow!
