I had to rush my son to the doctor (not related to Lyme) and while I was there I was having an allergic reaction to some new medicine I started taking.
So my son's doctor asked me why I was taking the medicine and my Lyme came up.
I have been tested and was positive plus I have been very sick from it.
The doctor (who I have always very much respected) laughed and asked me what "quack" I was going to. Said that he was taking me for a "fool".
Then proceeded to give me a lecture on the fact that there is no such thing as chronic Lyme and Lyme doesn't cause all the symptoms I am being treated for.
I WAS STANDING THERE IN SHOCK. I almost started to cry!
Then he told me I probably have Fibromyalgia and that it is WAY more acccepted in the medical field.
WHY, there isn't even a test for that! That doesn't even make any sense!
Oh my spirit is soooo crushed!
Thank goodness I can always get on here to listen to people who understand.

Doctors are trained to tell you that, several doctors on my side that are my friends told me that in medical school you are taught to NOT diagnose lyme disease. Dont let it hurt your feelings...

Makes no sense to me either. Fibro, why when there is no test.
I was told that by ID too even though I had a positive test and Health Department calling.

Complete ignorance of the Dr's part.
Don't get upset, many of us have been critized for our treatment. All I know is that I had lyme for several years and YES it has gone chronic. So, don't even get worked up over his comment, it isn't worth the effort.
Move along and get better. Posts: 1603 | From ny | Registered: Aug 2006

Why are they taught to say that in medical school??? WHich medical schools? Which profs and administrators???
I've had drs. roll their eyes at me and then one dr. who said, move her into Intensive care, this could be serious (when he found out I had Lyme).
Fibromyalgia was not accepted for a long time either!

I have to say that if I or a Vet spoke to a client that way we would be in big trouble. Not to mention I would be a jerk.
I swear that Vets are so much better than MD's sometimes. Who do these people think they are? I have considered having a vet treat me many times.
I am newly diagnosed and I am disgusted by what has been said to me by doctors in the last few days, but I am so sorry for you folks having to deal with these jerks for so long. I never would have thought having Lyme would be like this ever.
It is one of the worse things to happen to me. I pray that my children ( or anyone for that matter) does not have to go through this. I have been having nightmares about ticks coming after me. Every little black speck I think is a tick.
I feel like a bad mother for not being able to play and telling everyone to shoosh! I feel like my brain has been taken over by these germs. I cant remember what I am doing half of the time.
I am so thankful for you members and this site. In the short 5 days of my diagnosis this site and members have given me the support that I have been lacking.
I am going to say a prayer for all of us tonight hoping that all patients, their families and doctors (and my furry infected friends) get through this and come out ok in the end. God bless.

I also would complain to the office manager. Can't hurt. I assume you may be looking for another doc anyway. A letter is always powerful.

Jerk. Probably wouldn't know Lyme if it crawled up his leg and bit him in the nether regions!!!
Fibromyalgia???!!!!
Throw another one into the alligator pit.
Please don't let this idiot get to you.
Think about how important his opinion of you and lyme for that matter really is....
Now, remember what you know that this idiot doesn't.
I certainly would not be seeing him again, and I would flood his office with
Complaints about his less than professional behavior and serious lack of knowledge.
I wouldn't waste my time trying to educate him.
Hang in there. He's a jerk!

A walk-in clinic doc responded similarly, if less offensively, when I went in with systemic poison oak. I just responded " You've read it. I've lived it." End of discussion.

My poor step sister who has been struggling with neurological symptoms and pain from lyme ~ she had the bulls-eye rash twice ~ was told by the VA that she didn't have lyme and there was no way he was going to test her.
He actually laughed at her and told her there was no lyme in Tennessee and that lyme was only in the Northeast! Posts: 686 | From Northeast Georgia | Registered: Sep 2005
