I am assuming my doctor carefully reviewed my chart before prescribing me my Lyme treatment meds, but I shouldn't assume anything with my doctors after everything they have missed up to this point!

A few years ago I was told I had several small hemangiomas throughout my liver. (I am 31) Hemangiomas are small benign, blood-filled tumors that are at risk for bursting, so I cannot take regular birth control pills or some other medications.

I have heard Biaxin can greatly affect the liver and I am wondering if I should call my doc to go over this to see if there is a risk. I am only on day 2 of Biaxin and have been on Ceftin for a couple of weeks.

Thanks!!!

Certainly check with your doctor.

I was on IV Ceftriaxone for a month and my liver was a mess...I was immediately removed from all medication and was having my liver enzymes checked every 2 days to make sure they were going down (AST upper limit is about 30 and I was at almost 900).

Needless to say, when my LLMD wanted to put me on Biaxin, I expressed concerns about my liver's ability to cope. He said it shouldn't be a problem. MY PCP has been routinely monitoring my liver since the IV treatment and I haven't had any problems for the 6 weeks I've been on it now.....liver enzymes are back down to normal.

Thanks for your input! I will def call my doc and check then. I have about 2 weeks until I get my liver and kidney function checked, so I'll see what she says. I am sorry about your problems you've had and I hope you are almost finished with your treatment.... THANK YOU!

I've been on Biaxin since spring and my Dr. checks my liver enzymes regularly and they are right where they need to be. I also take Diflucan regularly which is known to be hard on the liver.

There is a supplement made by Himalaya called Liv52 that I've been taking for a year or so and I'm on mega meds with no liver issues. You can get it at vitacost.com very cheap.
