hey folks-

just a quick word to let you all know ive started juicing (reccomended reading "juicing for life") and it seems to be helping me tremendously. i think it might be possible that you have to be ready and open to it, but it can have a drastic impact on your health.

a brief overview of what i do:

juice once in the morning (assorted fruits i choose)

jucie once in the evening (for the time being celery since recent scientific evidence shows it has awesome anti inflamatory properties)

anyway, it SEEMS to be helping a lot, im on low dose oral abx and feeling better then usual.

still a long way to go and far from 100% but this id helping w/o question. (with a balanced diet low in carbs)

just thought id throw it out there for anyone who's interested.

cheers

derek

Derek, good advice. I'm big on juicing and have felt much better since doing it.
I do beet/carrot and apple. That's a liver cleanse mix.

But I must add, fruit juicing is not wise when yeast is a concern. Fruit feeds yeast and can make lyme symptoms a lot worse.

good point peace.

thanks for pointing that out.

right now my yeast is under control so thats not my worry, but could be the concern for someone who has active yeast overload..so good point

also, the carrots, they are a sometimes a no no for lymies DUE to yeast, just thought id let u know.

when i started juicing, i did carrots for a day or two and wondered why it made me feel worse. switched carrots to celery and wha la. [Smile]

im sure you know what you are doing though just thought id mention, as there is actually a lot of info on lymenet about carrots and us [Smile]

cheers

When you say "juicing", are you referring to using a juicer?

Are there sources out there that tell you which are the best combinations of fruits & veggies to use?

The juicer I have is AMAZING and you can get it on Ebday for like 60$ and I paid over 250$.
I have the Breville stainless steel one.
It's so easy to clean and makes little noise.

here is the one I use and YES so cheap on Ebay. Doh. I should have looked there first

http://cgi.ebay.com/BREVILLE-JE900-FOUNTAIN-PRO-JUICER-JUICE-EXTRACTOR-NR_W0QQitemZ220190108266QQihZ012QQcategoryZ20677QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Derek, yes I know carrots are high in sugar, but it's a clean carb.
http://intelegen.com/nutrients/candida_yeast_protection_program2.htm

it's considered a limited veggie with trying to lower yeast. My friend who had leukemia was on 2 carrot juices a day w.out yeast build up.
But yeah, its not a veggie you want to take too much of.

Another great liver cleanse is cabbage.
And most people think juices are gross, but they really aren't. Keep the veggies cold and they taste so good. And filling! [/QB]

If you want to try fresh juice before you invest in a juicer, Wild Oats makes them.

I have an old Juiceman juicer .... I was religious about juicing years ago, but got out of the habit somewhere along the line ...

I used to make carrot/celery/beet, carrot, carrot/celery, celery/apple .... sometimes I'd throw other veggies in there -- spinach, other leafy greens ....

Pretty much all fruit makes good juice.

Carrot & parsley are supposed to be good for eye problems.

It's best to just use a small amount of beets. I think they can detox your liver (or kidney) too much & it can make you ill.

Always best to use organic since it concentrates the ingredient or any associated pesticide residue!

No, every so often I start using it again. [Smile] I have the regular Juiceman.

It's just with six kids, just feeding everyone is hard enough .... doesn't leave much kitchen time for juicing!

I have the "Juicing for Life" book too and love it! I also have a "Juiceman" juicer which works great and is easy to clean.

I was juicing daily when I met with my doctor on 11/5 and all inflammation was gone. I felt great.

Over the holidays, juicing fell to the side due to hectic schedule. Also, getting current house ready to sell and new home ready for rennovations just took up too much time.

I met with my doctor today and even though I am not hurting, her physical exam said I am inflamed all over. And, I seem to have tonsilitis. I was stunned!

I'm getting back on the juicing wagon right away and I am going to SLOW DOWN!

So, the Juiceman Jr is easy to clean? We have an old Braun juicer and I think it has about 20 parts - too complicated and time consuming.

Any other recommendations for a good juicer that's easy to use/clean?

IMO, yes.

juiceman jr has maybe 8 total parts, one of which is the cleaning brush.

total time it takes me (in a sick state) to make something tasty is like 5 min from start to finish.
it hasnt been put away since i got it....

hope this helps.

Are there any tips in those books on how to `keep' the juice drinkable for about 36 hours?

About 20 years ago, I took care of my mom who had cancer and part of her protocol was fresh juices 3 times a day. By adding some particular brand of Aloe Vera juice to the fresh juices, it slowed down the action of the enzymes so that the juice would keep in the fridge for about 36 hours. That way, I only had to make juice every other morning.

Anybody heard of that or something similar?

derek and other juicers,

Do you use organic fruits/veggies? Are some better/worse than others in terms of whether sticking to organic is important?

Do you have the juice instead of meals or in addition to?

truth-

im not sure of any way to preserve it other then refrigerate it. although, im not an authority on jucicing. aloe sounds like a good idea.

as far as the kinds of fruits, etc, buy juicing for life, they have a section of reccommended fruits and veggies for us, that i am experimenting with now.

sometimes i use it as a meal, i try to listen to my body, and if i havent already juiced and its mealtime, ill juice (usually followed by a meal:)

keep in mind, im on a very strict, mainly raw, organic diet.

the fruits and veggies SHOULD be organic, because all the pesticides are harmful.

i get organic ones when i have the time to go to trader joes, if not, i get whats available.

i know the pesticides are harmful, but i think its more important to do it then to not do it because its not organic. again, im just starting out so im not sure of any of this.

good luck

Thanks, Derek.

A couple of things.....

there was no such thing as 'organic' way back then, so I peeled most of the veggies to make sure they didn't have pesticides, waxes, etc. on the skin.

I had 2 warts on my right hand when I started this juicing, and after about 4 months of peeling all those veggies and drinking the juice, I noticed that my warts were completely gone (and never came back). [Smile]

A number of years later, I got back into juicing, and I had a particular favorite combination that I drank 80% of the time. A few months later, I had an extensive food sensitivity panel done, and I was moderately sensitive to every single vegetable that I used in my `favorite' juice mix (plus a few more that I ate cooked fairly often). I don't think it was coincidence.

Therefore, it might be worthwhile to try to vary your `mixtures' on a regular basis, so that you are not drinking the same thing long term, especially if you suspect you have a `leaky gut' problem.

Something to keep in mind about symptom changes from diet: they might not be due to what new food you are eating, but rather what you stopped eating.

For example, I felt slightly better when I tried juicing, but I feel similarly better by eating less meat and more veggies (and I don't have the added work of juicing them).

good point dguy.

i was already eating these fruits and veggies, so i am experiencing them in their more potent form by juicing them.

good think to keep in mind though for those of us who have not changed diet from the normal "american" diet since lyme tx..

cheers, thanks
