How do you deal with it. What does it mean? Bart? Lyme? Both. Extreme tiredness as well. I am trying immetrx and ibuprofen...but still hurts.

When I get headaches it's on the right as well - mainly back of my head at the base of my neck. When it's bad it feels like someone stuck a nail in the base of my skull.

It's also my right ear that buzzes - not sure if that's related or not.

Aleve takes the edge off the headache. Other otc meds don't seem to help.

I only have Lyme and the headaches are kinda new - been treating for 4 months now (started with lots of twitching and vibrations).

I also tend to get a headache most every evening around 8pm for an hour or two. [confused]

You know what...I think ONLY my right side of the brain is infected. I believe the bugs cant get over to the left side. I have had this since 8, and interestingly, I find joyment only in techy like things. I cant find the ability to read books unless there numbers in them...some logical about it. Perhaps my right (creative side) brain is fried!! I seem to even have developed a low grade fever...so I MUST have bart probly killing it somewhat and therefore...headaches and extreme fatigue.

Mine were caused by an allergy to soy. They happen much less often now that I've cut out soy. I found out by accident, had an adrenal saliva test that happened to test for a soy allergy.

I also find I get them from tension in my right shoulder and neck.

James,

Do you have muscle pain? Zanaflex has been a lifesaver in reducing my muscle pain.

A lot of my pain is all over pain that really comes form muscles. I discovered this when working with a physical therapist who did trigger point release. When he worked on certain muscles, it referred pain to the areas that hurt.

Zanaflex is an antispasmodic used a lot for MS. I take 4 mg before bed, 2 mg with breakfast, and 1 mg in late afternoon. That's what I've found works best without causing fatigue. I started with just 2mg at night and gradually increased, then decreased the afternoon dosage from 2mg because it made me tired.

I work with a pain specialist. If this pain is more than just a short flare, I really recommend working with a pain specialist, because they have a better understanding of pain treatment than LLMDs do.

I also use vicodin for break through pain. I started the Zanaflex when I found myself taking vicodin every day.

The anti-inflammatories never touched by Lyme pain.

Nope...the left side. I periodically get 'headaches' that consume exactly one side (left) of my body: ear, jaw, front and back of head, neck, shoulder, arm, hand, and pretty much all the way down to my foot. It's like a line is drawn down the middle.

To some extent, it's always there as everything hurts worse on my left side. My achilles tendon just joined the club, which is making mobility a worse problem than it's ever been.

My LLMD has confirmed that the inflammation is worse on that side. I haven't gotten a theory as to why, though.

The weird thing is that I've gotten headaches since I was a child and they were predominantly on the right. The left side thing has been only since I've been symptomatic of lyme, and only this widespread and ever-present in the last 1.5-2 of seven years.

Is this 'one-sidedness' meaningful, and if so, does which side mean anything? (I'm VERY right handed, btw.)

Mine are left-sided usually, or occasionally, they affect both sides. Usually everything on the left side hurts though - base of skull, neck, shoulder, spine.

What confuses me is that it is usually my right ear that swooshes. When this all started though, I had burst my left ear drum - the doctor found blood in it. In fact, I never even went to the doctor that time because they were always telling me I was fine.

I hardly ever used to get headaches.

YES! That's all I have are right-sided headaches!! ALWAYS in the right temple area. I'm now 24 and headaches have gotten significantly better, but in high school, I had headaches every single day (also only on the right side of my head!). Usually it's a dull ache, sometimes along with the dull ache I'll get ice pick headaches (though those don't last very long at all. Just a few minutes of sharp, quick pain).

It was because of the right-sided headaches as well as my being off balance especially on the right side and the tingly-feeling in my legs that one of my ducks wanted me to have an MRI. That came back clear/fine.

Since Bart treatment, my headaches have gotten significantly better. I still have them, but not as often anymore -- and no where near every day. There were a few days awhile back where I had a headache for three or so days in a row again (though I'm pretty sure that was due to herxing from Andrographis which I had just started awhile ago). Ibupofren would help me but I'd always have to take more than one pill. PLUS, they'd always come back right after.

How did I deal? I don't know. When I was in high school, I was young and pulled through it. There was a time though I thought I had a brain tumor and went to the doctors about the constant headaches and they just told me to take three or four Ibuprofen. Never addressing the cause but just the symptoms! DUCKS!

How do I deal now? Well, they have gotten much better (with Bart treatment). When I do have them, I just take Ibuprofen and hope that it doesn't come back after the medicine has worn off.

Do you have Bart?

Yes, I have aches on the right temple. My ENT thinks it could be temporal arteritis but he is waiting to see if the Doxy makes it go away.

FYI--I am being treating for Ehrlichia and have not been tested for anything else other than the typical Lyme test which was negative.

I hate these headaches.

Hi james...

Yes. I have pain more on my right side in general. Sometimes I get some pain on my left side but it's rare. I have neck & head pain, shoulder pain, shoulder blade pain & my lower back is pretty bad.

I used to get headaches more often but I started bio-identical hormone replacement therapy & it helped alot. Could be something weird going on with the hormones? I don't know if that affects men but I know it affects me & I'm female. It's not that complicated - you just rub in some cream to balance the hormones.

I found Excedrine Migraine to be much better than Relpax & ALOT less money!

I too have right side headaches, in the temple. Not always, but when they are really bad, I get left side eye droop. Very noticable, everyone knows when I have a headache.

Sorry I don't have any answers for you. Mine eventually go away after a few days then they come back.

Ask for some samples of Relpax. WAY better than Imitrex. (But don't exceed 2 a week.)

I have bad headaches mostly left-sided.

Have you tested/treated for babesia? A known culprit.

Another med to try is Diamox, reduces inflammation in your brain. For some, at least.

Sometimes the very meds we're on for lyme and co-infections make the headaches worse. (I.e., doxy, plus babesia treatment as well).

Good luck. I hate bad head days.

Michelle

I've had headaches for as long as I can remember. And they've been mostly on the right side.

Migraines, tension, ice pick, cluster, sinus.... you name it.

Also get tension/migraine combos. All the fun of a regular tension headache, with the addition of sensitivity to light/sound, nausea, etc. Wheee!

Found that when I started supplementing my iron and Bvits, they were a lot less frequent.

Should probably get your ferritin level checked before supplementing if you suspect this could be the culprit.

Still, when I get headaches, particularly the tension/migraine combo, nothing seems to touch them.

I've taken Amerge, Fioricet, Excedrin (in various forumulas), and a few other things to try to deal with these, to no avail. Not all at the same time, btw. [Smile]

If you find a magic pill, please let me know.
