I am wondering if some of you can comment on babesia treatment protocols: what have you taken, how much, IV versus oral, and what worked.

I am specifically interested in those of you who have taken oral zithro/ mepron combo. what was your dosage, etc.

I would also be interested in symptomology you experienced, and what symptoms disappeared on treatment.

I have tried just about everything to get rid of babs. I have found the following combination to be the best.

Art- Dr. Zhang's Formula

Mepron-2 tsp 2xday

Septra

Biaxin

I took this combination for over a year. I now take 1 malarone a pill daily to keep everything in check.

I took two tsp. Mepron twice daily plus Biaxin and Art for about 9 months. Then I switched to Lariam (one every five days), Art and Malarone (1 per day).

Both protocols were in addition to other meds.

I herxed on Lariam the first few times I took it (air hunger and night sweats), so I know there still was some babs after the Mepron. I had not had any babs symptoms for a couple months before I switched over.

Air hunger, night sweats, and heat palpitations were my symptoms that were clearly babs related.

I no longer have any babs symptoms. All I take now for it is one Lariam every five days.

I am on Malarone for Babs and amoxill for Lyme. I seem to be a little better each day although if I over do it or don't take med's on time I backslide really quickly. My symptoms were night sweats, dizziness, confusion, word searching, air hunger, and swollen painful soles of my feet. Good luck with your treatment..you can do it!

Started on Mepron 1tsp 2x's a day and Zithromax 250mg 2x's a day. Felt better in a week. After a month doctor upped my Zith to 600mg 1x's a day (and the mepron still). Had a horrible 3 weeks and had to stop becausethe Herx was too intense. During this time doctor also wanted me to try art and cat's claw... couldn't tolerate either at this time. Doctor switched me to Bactrim DS 2x's a day and malarone 3 x's a day. Had a huge improvement quickly again. Stayed on this combo for 3 months, was able to add in the art and cat's claw. 10 days ago doctor switched me back to Zithromax 600mg 1x's a day and mepron 2x's per day to see if I could tolerate it now and hopefully send it packing. I had a rough week but am feeling much better the past few days. I hope it's almost dead! Sorry if this post is a confusing.

Hi Bruce.

I had babesia WA-1. Discovered rather late into lyme treatment.

Did about two months of Mepron (2 spoons a day) plus 250 zithromax twice a day.

My LLMD had me wait about 10 days to add artemisinin to the mix. 200mg, three times a day (total 600 mg daily of art).

I had been tolerating the above mixture very nicely until I added in the art.

When I did, my head felt like it was going to explode. Absolutely excruciating.

It underscores for me how artemisinin hits hard and packs a punch to the usual regimen.

I survived of course, and headaches lessened.

A couple months later, back with a vengeance. Repeated the process.

This time I'm more or less holding steady. Hard to know if it's back. Since my headaches are so frequent it's hard to rely on them as a 'marker' for whether babesia is cleared. I am thinking about a blood smear at the Fry Lab to give me some extra assurance. I regard them highly and don't trust clinical symptoms since mine didn't match what they should have to begin with (no sweats, etc).

Best of luck in beating its butt.

Michelle

I'm on the standard protocol: 500mg zith, started with 1tsp x 2times a day, but upped it this weekend to 2tsp x 2 times a day, I will be adding Art next week.

I have also switched to drinking a bit of tonic water instead of regular water throughout the day.
