When Dr.B put me on Levaquin for a short time 2 years ago he combined it with Ceftin, as he said he had learned over the years that those who combine it with a macrolide don't do as well.

I'm curently treating Babs with Lariam,Clindamycin and Biaxin but my bart is really flaring and as my first round of Bart treatment was so short really feel I need to address this again, but at the same time need to continue with current Babs meds for at least another month!

Have others taken Levaquin at the same time as Biaxin/Zith or Clindamycin? And if so did the Levaquin still have an effect?

I speak with my LLMD next week, but just wondered about others' experiences in the meantime....I guess my LLMD may suggest replacing the Biaxin with the Levaquin to still go after both Bart & Babs.

Thanks in advance
Elaine

Elaine how do you know your bart is flaring?

my llmd has said that you cant take a macrolide with levaquin.

I know some use bactrim instead while treating bart and babs.

Elaine,

I'm in the same boat as you...I'm on babs treatment, and feel my bart is flaring. I am on Zithro, which some say will treat Bart, but I feel it doesn't treat MY bart.

I believe you are right about not taking Levaquin with macrolides like Zith and Biaxin.

Just thinking out loud, I wonder why some LLMDs don't combine Rifampin (for Bart) with babs treatment. (maybe they do?)

I am very frustrated with this whole scenario. Keep us posted on what you and your LLMD decide.

I know someone who has been taking for three months now Rinfampin+Zithro+Mepron+Plaquenil.

She is doing very good.

Thanks for those replies -

So it looks like the general trend is NOT to combine Levaquin with a macrolide!......Still not sure about combining it with Clindamycin though!

Lymeblue - that is a good question, it is hard to know what is what as the infections overlap so much....but for me I feel the increase in excruciating foot and leg pain is Bart related, and also glands, throat, tippy feeling...which is different to the spinning vertigo I get with Babs.

I actually felt the Biaxin gave me a Bart herx when first started it 6 weeks ago, but not really sure now. Did many many months of Zith last year and it might have kept the Bart controlled I guess.

Will let you know what LLMD says when speak to him next week.

Thanks again [Smile]
