Holy crap, the 500mg strength (I'm not sure what quantity yet, they have to order it) is like almost 70 bucks, with insurance!

Did any other LLMDs insist on the brand name, he says the generics weren't as good as were causing ppl to feel unnecessarily sick.

Anyone else?

I start my IV sometime late next week, with just a regular IV, no pick no port. I'm happy with that.

The brand name has been reported by many to have far less side effects than the generic version of that particular drug.

He's got your best interest in mind when suggesting it.

Nessa, I have been following your story despite all the garbage that has been going on here.

I am terribly sorry that yours and many other important newbie posts have been ignored because of the questioning of a new treatment.

For the Flagyl, my doc tries both. Your pharmacist can give you a couple of the brand name and see how you respond. Talk to the pharm because most of the time, they are more than willing to help out with a few *experiment pills" at a nominal charge to you.

How will you be infusing and where? Is it a good idea to be stuck each day as you may compromise the integrity of the vein if it is longer than a week.

I wish you much luck and hope that you continue to keep posting about your results.

I will be infusing through a "normal" short IV, no catheter close to my heart....just in my forearm. I will do 4 days on 3 days off. My insurance only covers 28 days of Rochephin. :|

The infusion company and Dr. C and Nurse S will write the appropriate letters to try to convince them I need to stay on longer than that, if needed.

I just called the infusion company and told them that the pharmacy had to order the name brand Flagyl which will delay the infusion set up a few days. She said she had to do Flagyl and she said it was the foulest thing she had to ever put in her mouth. lol. Nice thing to look forward to...considering my already over reactive gag reflex! I would watch Fear Factor and vomit at the stuff they ate! lol.

Even if my own daughter or son throws up, I do too. Yuck.

That's a PICC line, then, isn't it???...if not... are they having to restick you each time for the IV??

Cobweb says to dip the pills in olive oil before swallowing to reduce the taste.

In my opinion, taking the pill naked would be more delectable than covering it with oil!

If you have a Costco nearby, ANYONE can get Rx there, you do not have to be a member, but that is all you can buy there w/o a membership.

You may be able to do this online, but I don't know.

You can at least check out their prices. www.costco.com

There may be a comparable warehouse club in your area (Sam's, etc.) if you don't have Costco.

And WalMart may be a good idea to see as many of there Rx are very low in price. You can probably find a list at their site. My guess is, though, that generics weigh heavy there.
