Hi all, I had my first LLMD appt. yesterday with Dr. C. A very nice visit. He is starting me on

500 mg. Ceftin BID. I won't have my labs back for about two weeks, but I am going to start

the Ceftin now. Should this be taken with
food? Also, he suggested I start out with a

smaller dose initially. Any advice?

Thanks a bunch.
Christina

Most abx work best for me if taken after a meal, breakfast and dinner; unless they are specifically not to be taken with food.

I started ceftin at 250 mg BID.

....Most abx absorb fastest on an empty stomach, but ceftin and mepron are the two exceptions I know of....ceftin needs food in the stomach to aid absorption and mepron needs not only food but fatty food.

My Dr. C in MO prescribed Ceftin for the summer months. It's fairly easy to tolerate. I take with breakfast and dinner 500mg BID.

Within an hour after I take the medicine I have a fatigue/weak spell, but that goes away in an hour.

It's not a cure all, but it helps the brain, I think.

Personally, I would NEVER take ANY abx on an empty stomach. I need to keep it!! [Wink]

When I was on Ceftin, I would get a stomachache if I didn't have a large enough meal with it.
