I'm currently in a realtionship with someone for over a year. Yes we are sexually active. My question is this, I've heard you can pass lyme to someone through this sort of contact. Is it possible for someone to have lyme, co infections etc and have no symptoms what so ever?

I'm thinking if your getting better, they have lyme with no symptoms than you'll get worse even if your in treatment correct?

I feel I've relapsed some in the past 8 months. I'm also currenly dealing with a paraiste picked up in another country on top of all my other complications.

Yes--it's very possible for one to have asymptomatic

Lyme. It's figure it's also very possible for our partner not to have

gotten Lyme from you, though--sexual transmission hasn't really been

studied much at all, so if they're not showing sx, then I wouldn't

worry.

I tend to think that it is sexually transmitted. I've read that during active infection with Lyme, the spirochete can be found in most bodily fluids including breast milk and semen. Anecdotally, there are also many couples that both have Lyme and only one has a history of tick exposure. In my own case, my fiancee is beginning to have episodes of lightheadedness and I can't help but wonder if they are Lyme-related.

I've done a lot of research on this because it scares me too that I could pass this on to someone else. From what I've found, it's easier for a male to pass it on to a female, however it can probably be passed either way.

I also found information in this message board in the 'newbie information' posts at the very top of this forum.

Since lyme is similar to syphilus in the spiral shape, and syphilus is obviously sexually transmitted, lyme is too. But I don't think that this necessarily means they will respond the same way you do, if they get it.

Perhaps that is why they say many people that have Lyme never noticed the rash! Perhaps...may contracted it in other ways, (i.e. sexually) without even knowing it.

I asked my LLMD if Lyme can be transmitted sexually. He said without hesitation - yes.

I would use procected sex and you might consider having your "steady" tested to see where you stand.

I don't know...it's your call. If she has it, you will possibly not get well - but pass it back and forth.

eek!...well you get the idea. [Smile]

It seems no one really knows for sure. My LLMD has treated thousands of Lyme patients.

I respect his opinion so as soon as I realized this could happen...I protected my husband.

Personally, I think it must have something to do with the healthy state of your partner's immunity.

Tho some suggest infection requires the saliva of the tick as well, I have not actually seen any such study, so I don't know about that.

Good Luck,
Peedie

I wonder what we are suppose to do if it is in salvia which some people say it is.

I know I use to share drinks with others before I was diagnosed and what about kissing?

Yea, when I heard that it has been found in saliva, I couldn't believe it. Lyme is just so frustrating.

Tickalert,

Boy does this question hit home right now!! I had been wondering if this was possible for the last year after seeing it posted a time or two. My husband and I asked my first LLMD who said NO!

Well my husband started developing very mild sx. Things that if I hadn't had Lyme for so long; I probably never would have given them a second thought. But he started not sleeping well, getting 'jimmy legs' as he calls it, ( legs started feeling strange and jumpy while at rest), headaches, and the biggest clue was his personality started to change. So when we saw Dr. Jones we asked him, he said most definitely and we could actually be passing it back and forth slowing down my process of getting better. Dr. Jones was very sweet and tested him. Well his WB shows 7 + BANDS!!!!!!!! VERY POSITIVE RESULT----:^( ! He will be seeing my new LLMD soon and starting tx.

I still don't want to believe that I gave it to him, but..............!
