Bob, how do you stop from swallowing some of the sesame oil? I really like oil pulling (gargle/chomp) first thing in the morning and intuitively feels good but I find after a few minutes I might have to cough or my throat seems to want to swallow some of it. How do I prevent that and continue for a few more minutes? Thanks.

I swish it slowly in my mouth for 20 minutes while I shower and get ready for the day. I spit the oil (the stuff in the oil is toxic) in the toilet rinse my mouth a couple of times then brush my teeth. I'll sometimes put a few drops of GSE in the water to be antibacterial in my mouth.

Having done a lot of that sort of thing over the years, it takes just a little oil to make it successful. I am a fairly small person, a teaspoon is a lot for a small mouth. Then you will have an easier time "chewing/pulling". You do not want to get it into the tonsil area. Just within the range of the teeth/
As soon as the oil turns foamy and whitish, it should be spit into the toilet. If you force it for 20 minutes, reabsorption might take place. So it will be a bit different for everybody. 5-10 minutes for me, at the most.
Google Karach Oil Therapy - he is the Physician who came up with this great idea.
I use unrefined unfiltered cold pressed sunflower oil. It also has a pleasant taste. I literaly grew up with it - we had an oil mill nearby. And since it comes out of Russia and the Eastern part of the world, where sunflowers and the oil is king, that is what he used for oil pulling. Be very choosy which oil you use, because it is in direct contact with your mucous membranes where absorption is almost instantly.
From my experience.
Take care.

this is absolutely the most fabulous therapy. truly amazing.
i still do it every day, not on any lyme treatment, it cleans my mouth and blood at the start of every day. if on lyme treatment or with any infections, it would be that much more critical imo. i would do it twice a day if i had lyme symptoms and on meds.. but you have to be careful with the timing. first thing in the am on an empty stomach is best. if you did it a second time, you would have to have fasted for 4 hours before the next session.
also, do not take any meds, herbs, homeopathic remedies or supps before doing it. you don't want to pull those things from the blood. put the good stuff in right after the pulling session.
try less oil, the oil expands as it fills with debris. also, i cannot do it in the shower, or while doing much other than simple tasks. the best is to take the time to meditate, and be sure to tilt head slightly up, not only to help from swallowing, but to get the back cavities of the mouth.
i also do allot of pulling/sucking through the front teeth focused on the palate under the tongue, which seems to help ward against swallowing and be more effective with results.
oil, like gigi said..
karach has the most bonified info.
i had problems with swallowing and gagging at first, but that went away when i worked to get used to it. now, no problem.
many times, when i wake up with the start of a cold or flu, a good pulling session will nail it then and there.
i do it every am, according to karach directions, every day without fail, for a few years now.. no matter what. i even took it to a desert camp. this really works.
