Having problems with vision in right eye. Its blurring and I cant focus and my site is impaired. It usually comes on with a pain in my eye and the next day or so it starts acting up. I know it is temporary, but very freaky.

My optomologist did a thorough check and he said my eye is healthy, but the lyme may be trying to hop onto/invade the optic nerve.

Could this be from a coinfection or just lyme?

Bartonella can affect the eye. Do a google search and you'll find lots of info about it.

Other things that cause blurred vision for me in either one or both eyes is exposure to mycotoxins (mold) and blood sugar problems.

I think the toxins from lyme can cause problems with vision in general.

I vote with Terry regarding Bartonella. The symptoms you describe, as well as my blurred vision, I attribute to Bartonella based on everything I've read and doctors who know. I have a bad case of Baronella, still, despite long-term treatment.

Yikes.. my LLMD insisted that I only have lyme despite my gentle pushing towards coinfections especially bart. I get feet pain and sore heels periodically, but nothing minor.

She finally agreed to give me a 2 week prescription for levaquin as trial to see if I have any response to it.

So your responses have confirmed my fears even though I am petrified to take this abx.

What were your reactions to the levaquin?? Is it as bad as I read???

I didn't get the sore soles until I started Bart treatment, now I have them all the time.

Unfortunately, I am one of those that developed Achilles Tendons pain and weakness, in both feet/legs, from a short course of Levaquin. The pain/weakness continued to get worse after I stopped the drug. This can happen - just read up on Levaquin, Cipro, etc. on Rxlist.com or Drugs.com or elsewhere.

I have had problems for about three years even though all I felt at first from Levaquin was just a spot of pain in my heels.

And I was taking magnesium with it, but I've heard that some LLMDs recommend pre-loading with high doses of magnesium prior to Levaquin.

I have been on Rifampin, too, for Bart. It was scary because I herxed so dramatically on Rifampin, but also on Levaquin, but Bartonella is a bigger issue for me than Lyme.

My bart tests were negative but doxy brought out the long red/purple streaks that are common with bart. A negative test means nothing since there are many strains that are not tested and more being discovered.

I've been on levaquin for many months. Initially I had some allergic type reactions, itching but that subsided after the first month. My overall pain/soreness increased as well.

I do take lots of magnesium and have been taking it for years prior to levaquin. I have recently developed the feeling of internal vibrations which I'm sure is muscles cramping. Sometimes I feel like I'm buzzing all over.

A mineral formual that has chinese herbs in it and various other mineral formulations along with plenty of water seem to help that problem a lot.

I've been on levaquin since Feb.. Plan to continue as long as I'm told to take it. I don't want to re-visit bart treatment if at all possible.

Levaquin does change the red streaks. They have taken a long time to fade but they are almost gone now although they still fade in and out once in awhile so I feel I still have bart. I also have the sore heels off and on.

I found that quercitin seemed to make the red streaks worse since I've been on levaquin so I think quercitin *might* interfere with levaquin because when I was not on levaquin quercitin didn't seem to affect the red streaks.

I added Larix (larch) which seemed to help fade the streaks. I assume this is because it helps the immune system to function better.

Sounds like there are multiple causes for eye difficulties.

gemofnj, I have only Lyme and I had eye problems - light sensitivity, floaters, eye muscle pain, then blurred vision. A neuro-opthalmologist couldn't find anything wrong in tests, despite the fact he had to anesthetize me to look at light.

When I tried drinking mangosteen juice (my brand is Ultra), all eye symptoms cleared up in 24 hours!! It's an antioxidant juice that clears out free radicals. If you try a mangosteen juice variety, make sure you drink a lot of water too.

I dont have streaks from bart, but I guess the 2 weeks on levaquin cant be that bad.

Robin, I am going to look into the mangosteen juice, sounds interesting.

Thank you very much for the responses. Its a great help! [Smile]
