I do tons of reading and it seems Fish Oil is a magical supplement for so many ailments / preventive measures. Are there major differences in this supplement by product manufacter?

Most things I read say 1,000 - 2,000 mg per day. Is this accurate? I read it takes 2-3 months to work. Does this align with your experiences?

I'm not interested as much in Omega 6 as Omega 3. We eat hardly any fish. I think it's important to get more Omega 3 somehow.

My wife is healthy, but it still seems smart for her to have it since again we don't get it in our diet.

I can't swallow huge gel capsules. The idea of pouring fish oil on food isn't appealing.

Are there better alternatives such as krill oil, flaxseed oil, etc.?

I'll look into it. The other Pharmanex brand sounds great, but $50 a bottle is pretty steep for one supplement. [Smile]

Hey Carla,

You are on mepron right? I'e been taking fish oil capsules that my doctor recommended--from Oakmont labs--but I realized they have ALA and Vitamin E. Both supposedly decrease the effectiveness of mepron according to many on this site and also Dr. S. book.

My LLMD never mentioned anything but I don't want to take them if they interact. Did yours say anything?

I take Krill oil from Mercola which now has the added bonus of evening primrose oil in it as well. They are in capsules thank goodness so the only bad smell is when I unscrew the cap. I also take 1000 mg of cold liver oil, one pill, made by Carlson.

My doctor prescribes 4000mg per day for my husband and me.

The DHA and the EPA in the fish oil should ammount to 1000mg for each capsule. If you buy cheap stuff, you'll have to take more pills.....and you'll have doubts about where the product was harvested and how it was handled.

I buy Carlson's from Vitacost. Flax seed oil is not as good for Lymies as the others.

Flax seed omega 3's still require 3-4 enzyme conversions to become active anti-inflamatory agents, the DHA and EPA in fish oil are ready for immediate use. That is why fish oil is better.

My integrative med doc, who works with my LLMD, had me taking Nordic Naturals, too.

I found that ordering it from vitacost.com was a bit less expensive - and they have the same brand.

I like the one that says "lemon" by the way - less fishy aftertaste throughout the day!
