My doctor has decided to add Lariam to my current protocol of IV zith, mepron, and art for babs.

He did mention that there has been problems with the med but said he's only giving it to me once a week.

I did a search on Lariam here and only found one thread regarding it and it does seem a little alarming.

I know we ALL respond differently to medications but was hoping someone could give me some first hand experiences on this medication, the side effects and if they feel it helped kick the babs.

Any first hand experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Cathy

Lariam was good for me, I took it every five days. I hallucinated the first two times I took it, but not really badly. The first time I kept hearing things, sounded likes books being thrown on the floor. The second time my husband came into the room and talked to me, but he was out of town. No problems at all after that and I felt better on it. I looked forward to the days I took it.

I took lariam for a few weeks and had horrible psych symptoms. Be very careful with this med.

I took this every 5 days - 3/4 pill as a full one seemed too much. No psych effects thank goodness. Did herx a bit at the beginning and it did help in combo with other Babs meds but seemed to stop working after 9 months so stopped it.

Just bewrae of the potential psych effects and if you get them stop it and let your LLMD know.

Good luck! [Smile]

I never had any real problems on it. The first time i took it I had some bizarre dreams, but nothing too bad.

Thank you all for the feedback. Anytime I start a new medication, I always reseach it and usually I just roll with it.

Every now and then, one comes along that has some bad press and oddly, I have found that if I hear the worst case scenarios, I tolerate the med better saying "atleast so and so didn't happen".

I took the first pill at dinner time last night.

I maybe had a MINOR difference in my balanceor lightheadedness but I have that anyway, so it could have been just the normal.

Also, I had some wild dreams last night, but again, I have had those in the past without being on this med.

So far, so good, but atleast I won't be jumpy putting the next pill in my mouth when it's time.

I use to get tossed in the hospital so many times during my undiagnosed days from various "band aid drugs" I was having reactions to, so I guess I'm more worried these days.

But thank you all. I think I just needed to talk to others that had been on it.
