Can there be any serious effects of drinking alcohol if you think you have Lyme?
What about drinking Absinthe which has woodworm in it?
If anyone knows anything it would be very helpful.
I also heard that sugar intake can affect you.
Is that true and if so how can it affect you?

Alcohol is bad if you have Lyme. Most Lymies feel bad from drinking it. Dr. B's guidelines specifically mention alcohol, you can refer to them at www.ilads.org
Most absynthe is just strong alcohol as the normal drugs in it are illegal.
Sugar is also bad, feeds the lyme and the yeast.

Hello Sinclair3, here's a couple of notes that may help you...
hello....i know that when you have lyme your not supposed to drink but i did on exmas eve and on christmass and i did last night on new years...
before my boyfriend came to pick me up had a glass of wine and then a rum and coke then i was in the bathroom doing number 2....
b4 i had found out i had lyme this would happen alot, so when i got to his house i had 2 more cokes and rum and then right b4 midnight I blacked out and got sick threw up and
then i was throwing up black stuff then i blacked out again and cried for almost 2 hrs about having lyme to my boyfriend...i felt so bad that i had to have him deal with me like that...
then i remember b4 we went to bed i kept telling him i love you (we havnt told eachother yet) and he said no you dont and i kept asking him if he loved me and i was getting more upset and forcing him to tell me but then he said yes i love you
and then i said no you dont and then i think i passed out....since i got lyme i dont do much drinking anymore but the last 2 times i have cried really hard after i had gotten sick....
about 3 weeks ago i had some martinis and got sick then cried my eyes out....
has anymone had this expirence and my hang over was horriblethis time, i was very dizzy and distorted all day and forgetful
and in the bathroom and nauces...this was my first bad hang over with lyme....is it the sugar thats bad for you thats on the alchole? why is it so bad for lyme?
_________ Lyme explodes on sugar, and alcohol is a form of sugar. Some LLMD's will not bother to try to treat you if you consume alcohol.
You shouldn't be having the coke either or candy, sugar, white flour or any food high in carbs like corn, bananas and potatoes. It is a tuff diet to follow and we all fall off now and then - but drinking is a big no no you can't afford to ignore.
I made the mistake of allowing myself honey as a replacement for sugar and I was going over board on it. I found myself out of remission, plummiting into more and more symptoms - now back on abx. You just don't get "well" with lyme.
You have to be diligent and when you are feeling completely out of it emotionally and mentally, it is very hard to stay on course.
If your boyfriend really cares about you he will not expose you to situations where there is alcohol. You need to love yourself
first before you have that love to give to anyone else and that requires taking care of yourself. It is not anyone else responsibility but they should care and not put you in harms way.

I decided that I would do everything possible to help my body heal from Lyme disease. So I quit alcohol too -- re: advice from Burrascano -- and just thinking... making sense. My poor liver is working overtime to rid the body of the dead Lyme toxins, and working to deal with antibiotics, and who knows what else. I KNOW that alcohol is hard on the liver - so it was an easy decision.
After my treatment is over I hope to go back to having a glass of wine now and then. But for now, why?
Another thing: I used to love sweets, but found that I don't crave sweets anymore, but do crave salt. Kind of an odd thing until I read about the salt protocol. Maybe my body actually can be trusted.

- First, Absinthe has wormwood (one species of artemesia) in it - Yes, but it is NOT the same species of artemesia from which artemisinin is made. In fact, wormwood alone will have little to no effect on malaria or babesia.
Besides, if you want herbal support there are wonderful ways - safe ways - to do that. But why add a hundred times all that alcohol?
* It's kind of like swallowing your meds with lighter fluid.*
Absinthe should NEVER have been allowed back on the market. It was responsible for a huge amount of destruction back in the time of Vincent Van Gogh. Just why do you think he cut off his ear? His brain was trashed by Absinthe.
Although current day Absinthe has lower low alpha-thujone levels, it's not a good thing to do to one's brain.
Lyme patients may be much more affected by thujone. I've done some research on this and, please, just trust me, stay far away from Absinthe. We need you - and all your brain cells - to help us create a better world.
----------
For anyone on lyme treatment who is drinking, money for doctor and meds may as well be flushed down the toilet. That may sound harsh and like a judgement but it is just the science of it.
We may try to fool ourselves thinking it's normal - or deserved to "party on" (and the media feeds that message) but it destroys cells in our brain, heart, liver, etc. Your cells don't care if it's a Hallmark holiday or not - the science of it all will still do the damage.
This is a very serious infection (set of infections).
The liver is likely damaged already from the bacteria and adding alcohol will greatly ruin any chances of a healthy life. As it is, this is a horrible battle. Why make it worse ?
Even if you have the money for treatment that is going down the toilet, it's not like you can go back and re-treat and get that chance back.
As spirochetes get stronger from alcohol, you may not have a chance to win the battle - and irreversible damage can occur to the liver. That could mean severe fatigue for life.
I hope you can find healthy ways to "feel the love" and "party on" - just being around others is so cool in itself. ,
Most types of absinthe contain extremely high amounts of ethanol and a chemical called thujone; both of which can cause brain cell death.
Thujone has the opposite effects of barbiturates like Xanax and in high doses can cause seizures and possibly death.
It is definitely best to avoid absinthe and not put your brain at risk of damage.
. . .
32) Getting Lyme disease
Severe forms of Lyme disease cause memory impairments and brain cell loss if left untreated for a long period of time. Lyme disease is usually carried by deer ticks, but can be found in other types of ticks.
To avoid Lyme disease, it is recommended to always check your body after long expeditions through the woods.
. . .
36) Ingesting aspartame
In case you didn't know, aspartame is an artificial sweetener found in gum, candy, and Nutra-Sweet [and Equal].
Several studies made connections that link aspartame to brain cell destruction. It is a very controversial substance that has been proven to be bad for health in some studies, and has been proven safe in others.
Either way, I'd avoid aspartame; it's nothing to risk your brain cells over.

Excellent ideas from each author below for how to better take care of ourselves, making treatment easier and giving us a better chance for success.
Oh, if drinking is due to depression or needing to feel less stress, Singleton outlines many supportive methods and supplements that can help relieve anxiety or depression as well as some that can help us with just feeling better in general (endocrine support).
If you crave sugar, you'll be amazed when you get your magnesium levels up. Craving sugar can be a sign of low magnesium and also of low adrenal function.
