Since there arent very many positive threads on this forum very often, I thought I would post one.
I saw my LLMD and he said that across the board I was making huge strides/progress in recovering from lyme.
I was tested back in Jan 09, and in comparing to when I was tested back in August 08, all of my different panels have improved, including my CD57. He thought that I was very close to being ready to get off abx completely.
My next step is to lower my abx again down to just 1 biaxin a day, and add in more supplements, including diflucan for yeast. He thinks some of my remaining symptoms are yeast related instead of lyme related.
In 6 weeks Ill see him again and if doing better, Im off abx and onto just maintenance supplements for a while, till eventually just normal routine vitamins and supplements.
My wife and I are thrilled that the end may be in sight for treatment. Im a little nervous about lowering the abx, but praying that my body is ready to solo without it.
Ive actually been feeling pretty well except for some headaches that have lingered the last 3-5 days. Coincidentally it mimics my wifes monthly...go figure... But who knows, it could be an allergic reaction as well as I just found out that some of my main staples (milk/dairy), registered for sensitivity...
Anyway, just wanted to share with everyone my good news for the day.
Hopefully everyone here will continue to improve, and hopefully Ill be back to normal in teh coming months...

My LLMD has a remission protocol.
Once symptom free while on antibiotics for 2-3 months he recommends the following:
Off antibiotics for two months.
Then on day one of a week take 1500mg of flagyl.
On day 2, take 1500mg of biaxin.
If you herx, back on the protocol you go.
This challenge is done once a week for 8-12 weeks.
If you remain without herxing or symptoms then you are "officially" in remission.
So glad to hear you are doing well.
Hugs,
Geneal

Definitely keep us posted on this.
I was wondering how long you have had Lyme and how long you were on treatment??
Did you have more physical symptoms or neuro/psych?

keep us posted, and thanks for sharing with us all!
glad geneal added her drs. protocol as he was 1 of 2 chronic LLMDs spoken to by former Pres. George W. Bush after he got lyme disease; which was NOT told to drs. he called for advise!!

Great news.
And, you might ask your doctor about transitioning to Olive Leaf Extract as way to ease out of treatment.
OLE is helpful for so many things and might just be a great bridge.

Since some have been asking... a brief synopsis:
I became ill 11/06. Misdiagnosed from different hmo drs as cold, flu, anxiety, ibs, (negative elisa for lyme), negative mri, negative every thing it seemed...till eventually a neuro diagnosed it as encephalitis and meningitis. But, he thought it was viral and that I would be better in 6 mos.
The typical lyme symptoms (cns, neuro, etc.) continued for over a year till after tons of tests, I pieced together lyme and then asked for a trial run of doxy in 5/08 from my family dr.
He agreed, I had a herx reaction, then felt better, and I then got an apptmt with a llmd in 8/08. (Almost 19 mos since it started). Started triple therapy of Biaxin, Tindamax, Omnicef, plus other supplements.
Continued triple abx for a few months, then went to just low dose Biaxin, along with supplements: Garlic, Olive leaf extract, Oregano oil, CoQ10, Triple Omega, digestive enzymes, Bs, Ds, magnesium, and a probiotic since the beginning.
Then a few months later, added in Cats claw and really catered to the Candida diet.
Now, starting today...adding in Diflucan and Zinc, and if progress continues enough, eliminate Biaxin in April 09. Then its likely just the natural anti fungal/biotic/virals of garlic, olive leaf, cats claw, etc.. till eventually just a maintenance program of daily vit/supplements for good health.
Things that probably helped the most... when I was really sick, I cut my work hrs in half for a number of months, then slowly increased them.
The Candida, no sugar, no yeast, no msg, no caffeine diet I think really helped.
The triple therapy abx I think made a big difference. Otherwise, the biggest thing that helped was just a positive outlook in believing that things will get better. Thats the hardest one... especially when you feel horrible.
Even this past weekend when I had some bad headaches roll in, I had to try to smile and keep going. And theres no doubt that none of this would have been possible without the support of my wonderful wife and family.
Now I just have to hope that I dont jinx myself with feeling better and spiral down the rotten health path again...
