it comes up regularly what other illnesses overlap lyme, and i was looking this up for someone and remembered i had this on my word processor, so i'm posting what i have to assist others!!
i'd like to suggest each of you copy this to your files so it's available when you are questioning IF you have 1 or more overlapping illnesses/diseases. thanks xox *******************************************

300 Medical Conditions Related to Lyme Borreliosis A Disease Frequently Misdiagnosed - 2003 ****************************************************
Katrina Tang, M.D., HMD, founder and Director of Research at the Sierra Integrative Medicine Clinic in Reno, Nevada, states that Lyme disease eludes many doctors because of its ability to mimic many other diseases.
According to an informal study conducted by the American Lyme disease Alliance (ALDA), most patients diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) are actually suffering from Lyme disease.
In a study of 31 patients diagnosed with CFS, 28 patients, or 90.3%, were found to be ill as a result of Lyme.
Dr. Paul Fink, past president of the American Psychiatric Association, has acknowledged that Lyme disease can contribute to every psychiatric disorder in the Diagnostic Symptoms Manual IV (DSM-IV). *****************************************************
This manual is used to diagnose psychiatric conditions such as attention deficit disorder (ADD), antisocial personality, panic attacks, anorexia nervosa, autism and Aspergers syndrome (a form of autism) to name a few.
List of Conditions
Lyme Borreliosis causes, mimics, is manifested as, is misdiagnosed as or is a contributing factor to many conditions.
The following list of over 300 conditions was compiled by means of a non exhaustive search of published scientific literature and includes:

Lyme disease is spreading steadily, and some experts say it can elude the standard cure was published in People Magazine on June 16, 2003.
The article tells the story of a patient suffering from Lyme disease who was misdiagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), an incurable disease that is fatal within 5 years of onset.
Dr. Whitaker states that nearly every patient she has tested who is suffering from Parkinson's Disease has tested positive for Borrelia. *********************************
Professor Luis Romero, MD, PhD reports three patients that had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease years ago to be 99% reversed using Pentacyclic Alkaloid Chemotype Uncaria tomentosa. **********************************************

Betty you might also want to add Myasthenia Gravis to your list.
I just did some looking for another member and found some evidence of overlapping symptoms with Lyme (or in my humble non-expert opinion, evidence of Lyme causing the symptoms knowns as Myasthenia Gravis).
Neuromuscular conditions overlapping with Lyme? (i.e. myasthenia gravis, etc.)
it was the link you mentioned which made me go looking for this 300 plus list of other illnesses to see if it was on this list or not.
then i decided this must be posted; we're asked daily about the similarities of these illnesses. this will help tremendously.

yes, after looking at this extensive long list, i no longer blame any dr. for NOT diagnosing LYME DISEASE IMMEDIATELY! i had until i came upon this valuable list.

here is just some of the evidence I found and posted in that thread:

1. This one seems to point to a direct cause or a misdiagnosis, or at the very least an overlap of symptoms with Lyme and Myasthenia Gravis. This woman had Lyme "3 times", and yet it wasn't considered a suspect in her condition?!?:

Case history
"The patient's complaints were chronic back pain in the neck for about six months (spinal CT and spinal MRI(twice), SSEP, MEP, NCV/EMG, EEG, laboratory investigations: WBC, inflammatory parameters, GAD-Ab: all normal; borrelia burgdorferi: 3 times: slightly elevated IgG titres),
`lack of appetite' and weight loss (gastroscopy, coloscopy, abdominalultrasound, laboratory: all normal). Repeatedly she reported `respiratory troubles', especially under pressure (chest X-ray,lung function testing, lung scintigraphy, thoracal CT, echocardiography, ECG, specific laboratory testing: all normal).
After consulting 17 general and specialised physicians and before offering her an early retirement,a psychiatric investigation was carried out with results as follows: ``moaning, whining patient, latent aggressive, blaming..." [End of Free Preview]"
I think here we have another possible case of a disease state being blamed on autoimmunity because they don't understand Lyme Disease and know how to clinically diagnose rather than depend on current poor testing.
If researchers and Doctors do not understand that Lyme can go Chronic and cause a whole spectrum of disease states and symptoms, then they won't know to even look at it as a possibility. Instant blinders.
2. And another seeming connection (in my non-expert opinion):
"Lipopeptides of Borrelia burgdorferi outer surface proteins induce Th1 phenotype development in alphabeta T-cell receptor transgenic mice."
* Myasthenia gravis-like syndrome induced by expression of interferon gamma in the neuromuscular junction. J Exp Med. 1995 Feb 1;181(2):547-557. [PubMed]
Looks to my untrained eyes like Borrelia Burgdorferi can create circumstances that can lead to a Myasthenia gravis-like set of symptoms."
If you need more scientific./medical papers please let me know - I only looked a short while - there seems to be a lot of evidence for this out there.
From my husband's long journey prior to his Lyme diagnosis:
--bundle branch block (I'm assuming this is in the same family as heart block and persistent atrioventricular block, listed above)
--vasovagal syncope
Has anyone else experienced these in connection with Lyme?

to all, when i joined her 5 yrs. this august, i kept reading all this wonderful info from PATIENT, ART DOUGHERTY, CALIF.
in it was his 300 other symptoms list. he broke each down and showed medical abstracts for each compared to lyme. it is NO LONGER AVAILABLE online.
i went down thru almost all of his links; 75% plus have all been taken down.
i tried emailing him at the link shown on other of his info, but it came back.
does anyone know if ART DOUGHERTY is still alive? ***********************************************************

Re: buncle branch block--here is a review article that cites this symptom as being associated with Lyme:

It's a clinical review, so I don't know if that counts as support. I will keep searching for documentation for both symptoms. Back later...

I was misdiagnosed as having menopause.
Isn't there any literature on that so you can add it to your list?

yes, i was really impressed when i found this 5 years ago; i believe it might have been on art dougherty's extensive lyme site!!
be my guest for ask others if they have any medical literature to ADD to the list someone else published and i'm adding to
i just think it's so important to know about all these look alike illnesses and to pursue lyme when we can give others evidence about this.
example, went to my 1st chiropractor treatment today in 8-12 yrs. receptionist had been sick & talking to another lady. so i asked what was wrong.. many things again that LYME folks have including lupus diagnosis.
she also had endometriosis surgery and never healed well from this. believe she might have had spinal tap and many other invasive things. so i went out to my van & brought her in my lyme info to read thru for herself.
i asked chiro if he'd like lyme info; no, he has other lyme patients! i don't think he'd run into any of them as my symptoms/illnesses were. he had me do front/back/side ways bends, and even found the lipoma on my mid back.
he had thorough 2 page Q/A of 4-5 columns across of all illneses/symptoms, etc., all surgeries, meds, etc. he couldn't believe all he was reading. he does have insurance; reasonable $39. come back next mon.

Thanks, Betty. I'm glad you kept bringing this to the front page....
I finally used the link and got the list copied into a Word document so the conditions on the list are 'clickable'. I would have forgotten to do it if you hadn't brought this thread to the front a few times.

I think it could be done, Betty, because I've seen some posts here that appear to be in HTML format...... but I don't know how to do it.
It would also be possible to re-copy each condition listed as a hyperlink, but that would take FOREVER.
Easiest is just to copy the info from the website, then use the 'paste special' function to paste it into Word document.... I can't remember which I used to paste - RTF format, I think....
