I just found out about the Gupta Programme for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, etc. a few days ago and posted it on my site: http://tinyurl.com/AmygdalaRetraining

Not sure if it has implications for lyme disease but definitely for overlapping conditions.

Just wondering if anyone has had success with it, or not.

Thanks,
Julie

I'm on the Gupta Amygdala-Retraining since a few weeks. Together with my Lyme and Co-symptoms I had developed CFS which got worse and worse over the years. Even when abx made my other Lyme symptoms go away, the fatigue got worse.

In February it got so bad that it was frightening: cleaning a kitchen cupboard for 5 minutes would put me in bed for 2 days. That's when my desperate googling led me to the Gupta program and after watching the first 3 free sessions I ordered it right away.

I'm going slow on the retraining because I'm working full time which doesn't allow me to do it as often and as complete as I should. However, within 1 or 2 weeks I noticed a remarkable improvement in my CFS. We got a visitor for 1 week and I was able to participate a bit in the entertainment program:

- I went to an exhibition and was able to stay and enjoy for 1,5 hours.
- I went for 2 walks (30 and 45 minutes)
- I went shopping - 3 shops in a row

All of this gave me no ill after-effects. However, due to the visitor in the house, I neglected the retraining and I crashed badly again: standing on my feet for 5 minutes and I was in bed again for the rest of the day.

Now I'm back on the retraining and I've improved again. Every year, we rent a piece of field to grow our own organic vegetables and the last year, I couldn't do much in it, anymore. This year, with me being so bad before the Gupta program, I couldn't have done anything.

Now, I'm back at the same level as last year. I planted for 1,5 hours and was very tired afterwards but I recovered within a few hours. Since then, I have worked several times for about 1 hour in the field and had no ill effects anymore. But I'm careful not to overdo it.

I think the program does work for CFS - you just have to stick with the training. I found one woman here in Germany who had Lyme and she says she is well now - only with The Gupta training.

Even if it won't fix my Lyme problem: I'm very glad that I found the program. First, it helps with my fatigue and second, it opened my eyes about the situation I had put myself in during the last 6 years:

I was obsessed with my disease and there was no space for anything else. This is NOT a healthy thing and I can see now how this obsession kept my immune system down. I find it very difficult to overcome this ``addiction'' and this is the biggest problem in my retraining.

I'm not reading much in Lyme boards anymore and if I do (like today) I open only the posts that don't seem to be able to excite me in a negative way.

I recommend to watch the first 3 free sessions at http://www.cfsrecovery.com/

If you recognize yourself and your thinking patterns in it then you might be a candidate who can improve with the training.

There is a forum about the Gupta program:

Hi Julie

Gupta gave a talk at my local CFS group last yr and apart from being convinced of the theory behind his programme, I was quite impressed with him too and decided to buy the book & the DVDs.

Unfortunately in my case I was unable to put the mental exercises into practice as my head was so bad that I couldnt relax enough to do it, which is ironic as obviously the exercises are supposed to help you get into a parasympathetic dominant state conducive to healing.

There were 2 women in my group tho, both of whom were very ill with CFS, one was bedbound, and both improved greatly on the programme and continue to do so. (As far as I am aware they don't have any infections like lyme, or at least they are not aware of it..they havent mentioned it and I dont think they've been tested).

I have another friend with CFS who hasnt really make much significant progress from doing the programme tho.

I know that it has helped others, and Gupta himself said in his talk when I asked him that his prog has helped with people with lyme, metals, adrenal problems etc. I guess as with all treatments it depends on the individual and how severe the symptoms are and what the underlying causes are. I know that I needed other treatments first but I do still have the programme and may go back to it one day. I feel in my case it would be very much an adjunct treatment.

Just to add tho I do try that when I find myself getting stressed I do try and switch off my mind to worrying thoughts, just in a very informal way when I remember to do it, and this does seem to have a positive impact on my energy.

Gabrielle thats great that it has helped you so much & its v interesting to hear about the woman with lyme too. It just shows how powerful mind/body treatments can be.

Tried brain retraining for over a year. It was a complete waste of time for me.

I started it, but didnt continue it.

Now I think I should have done it completely because it would have helped to stay positive.

My fatigue also got a bit better without Gupta, but my pain is much worse now.

I am interested in trying one of these programs - has anyone else tried this? Why does this seem to work for some and not others?

I notice he has some parts of the program posted on youtube that we can sample for free. i think I'll try to do that, but will have to be kind of far from the computer since I'm emf sensitive.
