I am hoping all four of us will be well enough to go. We saw Dr. Jones today. I wish I knew what we could get him as a little, personal gift but the office staff just kept repeating "donate to the legal fund."

The only thing I know he likes is books, poetry....I just wish he could receive something for himself too.

A reminder for all.
The best gift for Dr. Jones would be your presence at this celebration. What an opportunity for us all to thank Dr. Jones who has done so much for the Lyme community

I'm hoping to go with my family as well. It would be wonderful for Dr. Jones to see so many familiar faces and know how much he means to us.

But there will (hopefully!) be a lot of other people present who aren't on the board. What should we do so we can recognize each other? Green ribbon in the hair? Or maybe around our wrists? Or, better yet maybe carry a sign showing our lymenet names. What do you all think?

I was just downstairs and realized my message could be interpreted differently than I meant it to be.
We are all in various states of sickness and if we can make it that is great and if we can't, we all know that we each support what this man does for everyone's children.
I go in support of those of you too sick or with children who are too sick to travel.
Wishing everyone better health.

Thanks everyone; one conflict is that my 19 year old has a dirt bike race about an hour and a half away; so if we go it will only be with one child and I really wanted it make it a family event.

Also we would then (or at least my husband) would not be able to attend Ryan's race...I'm going to try and talk him out of the race but I highly doubt I'll be successful.

Substitute House Bill No. 6200

Public Act No. 09-128

AN ACT CONCERNING THE USE OF LONG-TERM ANTIBIOTICS FOR THE TREATMENT OF LYME DISEASE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2009)

(a) As used in this section,

(1) "long-term antibiotic therapy" means the administration of oral, intramuscular or intravenous antibiotics, singly or in combination, for periods of time in excess of four weeks; and

(2) "Lyme disease" means the clinical diagnosis by a physician, licensed in accordance with chapter 370 of the general statutes, of the presence in a patient of signs or symptoms compatible with acute infection with borrelia burgdorferi;

or with late stage or persistent or chronic infection with borrelia burgdorferi,

or with complications related to such an infection;

or such other strains of borrelia that,

on and after July 1, 2009, are recognized by the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a cause of Lyme disease.

Lyme disease includes an infection that meets the surveillance criteria set forth by the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other acute and chronic manifestations of such an infection

as determined by a physician, licensed in accordance with the provisions of chapter 370 of the general statutes,

pursuant to a clinical diagnosis that is based on knowledge obtained through medical history and physical examination alone,

or in conjunction with testing that provides supportive data for such clinical diagnosis.

(b) On and after July 1, 2009, a licensed physician may prescribe, administer or dispense long-term antibiotic therapy to a patient for a therapeutic purpose that eliminates such infection or controls a patient's symptoms upon making a clinical diagnosis that such patient has Lyme disease or displays symptoms consistent with a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease,

provided such clinical diagnosis and treatment are documented in the patient's medical record by such licensed physician.

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 20-8a and 20-13e of the general statutes, on and after said date,

the Department of Public Health shall not initiate a disciplinary action against a licensed physician and such physician shall not be subject to disciplinary action by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board solely for prescribing, administering or dispensing long-term antibiotic therapy to a patient clinically diagnosed with Lyme disease,

provided such clinical diagnosis and treatment has been documented in the patient's medical record by such licensed physician.

(c) Nothing in this section shall prevent the Connecticut Medical Examining Board from taking disciplinary action for other reasons against a licensed physician, pursuant to section 19a-17 of the general statutes, or from entering into a consent order with such physician pursuant to subsection (c) of section 4-177 of the general statutes.

Subject to the limitation set forth in subsection (b) of this section, for purposes of this section, the Connecticut Medical Examining Board may take disciplinary action against a licensed physician if there is any violation of the provisions of section 20-13c of the general statutes.

this is outstanding! i'll email this out to all on my lyme list so we can ALL CELEBRATE YOUR VICTORY, AND HOPE WE CAN ACCOMPLISH THE SAME THING NEXT SESSION OF STATE LEGISLATURE.

now, we've got to work harder yet on HR 1179 in congress; getting more to co-sponsor our lyme bill!!

give dr. jones an extra hug/kiss from me on his birthday will you folks? thanks [Smile]

I can tell by today there is no way I'll make it tomorrow. I'm still fighting this sinus infection and am sapped of any energy I might have. Can't move out of bed, for days on end now.

I wish I could be there. It sucks to have to miss out on so many things. My son would have LOVED to be there more than anything.

It was a beautiful day and how nice to see Dr. Jones. He was there the entire time! People waited in line to say hello.
Unfortunately, my lymebrain forgot my camera so maybe someone else will be able to post some pictures.
He is just so good with the kids! My kids went right up to him and gave him a hug and talked to him. He puts them at immediate ease. They've been well for a few years, so they haven't been to see him in a while.
My youngest is 5, but the last time she saw him she was 2.5 or so. I'm not sure she even remembered going to see him.
Pat S. from the LDA has some kind words to say and ofcourse I cried. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to him! I'm sure others will have more to add.
Thanks to everyone who organized this!
And don't forget......
For those unable to attend please consider donating to the Dr. Jones legal defense fund in lieu of gifts.
