Hey,

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I have been having wierd symptoms that are getting worse.

I am having REALLY bad cold chills in 80 degree weather to the point where I am freezing.

Also the newest one is I get a burning/numbness sensation under the right side of my scalp.

I have had Tinnitis for a while and it progressively getting worse.

Also my left ear will go deaf for minutes about 3-4 times a day. It almost feels like I have water in my ear.

And last, but not least, My circulation in my legs, feet, and hands is REAL bad!

About 10x a day my hands and legs will go numb AT THE SAME TIME!

Sorry for the long list, just freaked being I have these symptoms, but they aren't going away with aggressive treatment. [bonk]

I am treating with IV Doxy, Malarone, Tindamax, Artemesia and Zithromax.....

Any Clue? [confused]

Sounds like Herxing to me, but the ear problem (going deaf for minutes) should be reported to your LLMD immediately, in case it is due to a med side effect, or even from herxing. They might might want you to slow down or stop certain meds in case your ears can't handle them.

Keebler always posts very good information about ear issues - you might want to search for some of her posts on hearing and tinnitis.

Overall, the rest of your symptoms sound very much like my herxes. But I am of course NOT a Dcotor, so this is just my opinion based on my own experience (and also on others' herx experiences I have read here and elsewhere).

If it is a Herx in your case, it can stay on for a while, or come and go. From what I have read, herxes are not exactly routine. Some can linger for a long while, or be gone in a day or two. I think it depends on many factors.

i agree with nenet - could be herxing - That's a powerful combo. Are you doing anything for detox?

Would also call your LLMD asap about the ear problems and worsing sypmtoms. I had some ear problems from the zith .

Here's a link on it. Scroll down to side effects, it does mention ear issues ~

http://www.drugs.com/sfx/zithromax-side-effects.html

"Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Zithromax Single-Dose Packet:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody stools; chest pain; dark red, raised areas of the skin; hearing loss; pounding in the chest; ringing in the ears: severe diarrhea; stomach cramps/pain; yellowing of the skin or eyes."

Hang in there , you are not alone [group hug]
(((Healing hugs)))

~ none of the above is medical advise. Just my 2 cents

nenet and 5dana8,

I have reported the hearing problem to my doctor and he sent for a routine ear exam and everything came back fine.

The hearing is less frequent than the cold chills and the numbness of the right and back side of the scalp.

As I am typing I have the numbness under my scalp. REALLY WIERD!!

As far as detoxing, I am not right at the moment.

The most annoying/scary symptoms are the circulation, chills and the scalp numbness.

It would be great if it is a Herx. The last time I NOTICED a Herx it was 2 years ago upon diagnosis.

Thanks for your support and replies!

Kreynolds,
The right side of my scalp has been driving me nuts off and on for weeks. It used to be the base of my skull. Anyway, it feels like I have a flea in my hair. Or a T*#K.

Yeah, I got bugs, but it FEELS like I got bugs.... EEEWWWW!!!! I am about as parsite-o-phobic as a person can be. This is really hard for me.

I have the tones and chills and even "White Finger" at times. I'm not a "cold" person, so it's wierd for me. I tend to run hot with a low body temp and low blood pressure.

I have so many bizzare freakin' symptoms that even my doc can't make sense of them all.

Hold on.

Pinelady,

I bought the charcoal caps about 3 weeks ago because I was having a bad reaction to a med, but have yet to take them.

Rambler,

That is exactly what it feels like, gets real numb....

I can't make sense of all this, but everyone is helping out and I appreciate it.

It feels like my arms and legs are falling off because of the circulation and then my scalp twitces and goes numb......

The cold feeling is insane, it was never this bad.

My ears are real bad, but not as bad as the other symptoms...

Thanks to all!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record....Check the PARASITE & LYME THREAD!!....these are symptoms of parasaites/worm

Read the symptom list

at www.humaworm.com

Rambler,

sorry but what your feeling crawling on your scalp is an ACTUAL parasite...I have/had them push through with aggressive herbal and salt/c treatment. People with Lyme disease are loaded with parasites and worms.

Okay guys, I freaked out when I first realized what was going on. I mean I started to run around the room panicking. I then sat down and said you better get hold of yourself or they will win.

I declared WAR!!...I then lit a candle and incense and decided that this was some kind of a shamanic journey. Did you guys happen to read the responses I got from the lymedocs? There are a few LLMDs that are very aware of this.

The post is called Responses from lymedocs and the Filarial Worm connection. I have posted this site many times, so here it is again

www.lymephotos.com

Also check the parasites & lyme post that sparkle posted. Lots of good info. Sorry, not trying to freak anyone out, but if you want to get well this has to be addressd.

Kreynolds,

You can herx on the humaworm herbs like anything else. You can only take them for 30 days with a 90 day break.

They have in between herbs that are good. You have to keep going after these parasites worms with persistence over many months.

Hope this helps, Gael

Have you gotten your thyroid checked? Being cold when it is warm is a classic sign of a sluggish thyroid, something which afflicts almost all chronic lymies.

One of my first lyme symptoms was formication top left of my scalp. It has progressed to be a more solid sensation. Lyme can cause this condition. It took me too long to find a name for it to make the doctors believe me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formication

No info on the ear problem but co-infections have chills on the list of symptoms as you probably know already.

Hope you start to improve soon

About ears:

Are you taking NAC? Milk Thistle or other liver protection? That is vital to help prevent ototoxicity but it may not be enough.

The tinnitus and your ear going deaf for a few minutes at a time is a serious a warning sign. Zithromax can cause hearing problems and even, sometimes, deafness.

Your LLMD should be told of your symptoms today. Perhaps he will switch meds.

=============

PubMed Search:

Azithromycin, hearing loss - 11 abstracts

A few of those:

Sensorineural hearing loss as a probable serious adverse drug reaction associated with low-dose oral azithromycin.

Irreversible sensorineural hearing loss as a result of azithromycin ototoxicity. A case report.

Azithromycin-induced hearing loss.

=========================

Other than calling your doctor on Tuesday about this . . .

Be sure to avoid headphones, especially the in-the-ear pod style right now. And protect your ears from noise. This is very important as your ears are more susceptible to noise damage when on abx and, especially, with your symptoms.

Rest your ears from sound, too. Liver support is vital.

This could also be a mercury toxicity. As lyme is killed off, it releases mercury so that is why some protocols focus so on heavy metal detox.

Chlorella tablets, Cilantro, DMSA . . . . might help ease your ear symptoms but you might also consider massage or other gentle detox methods, too. You need to do mercury detox very slowly and I'm sure not the expert there but gentle is the key word.

How long have you been on babs meds? It sounds just like one of my babs herxes (except for the hearing part). The 4th,5th and 6th week of babs treatment were awful for me as well as weeks 10, 11 and 12.

Since you can't take milk thistle with the babs meds drink as much lemon water as you can as well as green tea. I also recommend a Tblsp. of olive oil to help flush out your liver. The charcoal caps would be great too.

Hope you feel better soon!

Lauren

yep, my babs herx's where brutal and a hard co to beat into remission. In the end the low grade fevers and chills disappeared for a long time and was worth the herxing .

Drinking lots of decaf tea with lemon did alot for detox when i was herxing. The herxing was really horrible but in the end did bring some symptom relief.

Where you able to contact your doc yet?

Hang in there, you are not alone.

I'm glad you were able to talk with your doctor.

The deafness you mentioned, is it as if someone turned off the speaker? That is what I assume from the word. Or - might it be as if your ears are stuffed and sound is muffled.

I hope you were able to describe the sensation to your doctor.

If it seems to be a blockage rather then the "sound being just turned off" lymph drainage may clear a possible clogged eustachian tube (clogged from swelling).

Ginger may help to reduce swelling. And, considering your ear symptoms, just in case you might consider this - be sure to avoid vicodin as that can cause deafness, in some cases. ( www.hearinglossweb.com/Medical/Causes/oto/vic.htm )

-----------

Although you can't take milk thistle, some sort of liver support (even if only through diet) is important. I hope your doctor was able to give you some alternatives such as NAC, turmeric, dandelion, etc.

From a protocol for Chlamydia Pneumonia (Cpn) which is a similar chronic stealth infection, this treatment protocol is also similar to that of chronic lyme. It employs NAC as the main liver protector (and that may also help protect ears):

Dr. Stratton Cautions on Protecting the Liver

. . . "Surprisingly, the only anti-chlamydial agent that did not cause hepatitis in some patients was NAC. In fact, NAC is recognized as being protective.

See attached references. My conclusion is that NAC should be the first agent in an anti-chlamydial regimen and should be a constant part of the therapy for this protective effect, not to mention it's effect against elementary bodies.

It can be 90 degrees outside and I'll grab my winter coat to get warm for the same reason. My body cannot seem to be able to gauge temperature.

Do you get hot flushes and sweats just prior to these chills?

What about when you are freezing cold and attempt to get under a hot shower head? Does it feel scalding hot to you?

Also, do you use a cell phone or cordless phone? Which ear do you hold it against?

Keebler,

Yes I explained it to him just as you did. It sounds like someone turned the speaker off.

blaze,

Yes I get hot flushes prior to the chills, today I was freezing and got in the shower and like you said it feels like I am being burned.....

It happens all the time, I use both a cell phone and a cordless phone.

I use my right ear because my left is really bad.

Why do you ask?

kreynolds

Do not worry ..I could not feel my feet for 3 weeks..felt like they were not mine.

Has to do with the too many red Blood cells that die with babs in it.

Take enzymes , vitamin c , vitamin E and fish oil as well..it will pass..you are herxing big time..

keep the dosage you have until you feel some improvement than increase them slowly ...do not increase anything right now..until you feel that you reached the level that you can handle...usully when severely sick people use 1 week to increase 1 pill of artemisin ...

ARTEMISIN kills the free form when the free forms is lower that you continue to chase cyst form ..and they are every where trust me even you might feel better and enrgetic...

you are also allowed to STOP the treatment for only 1 or 2 days to let body to detox but this is ONLY 1 time oportunity

I would sugest lowering it rather than stoping to pass by the herx

It sounds like a big time herx to me. I went thru all of those symptoms you mentioned at one time or another. Sounds like you are really hitting the babs. Similar to malaria....sweats and chills. I think this is a really good sign and it will pass.

Hang in there.

They can be very bad but if you can ride it out you will come thru it better. It seems like you are over due for one, sorry. I think those who can handled the bigs guns in terms of meds, dosages and the hard

herxes have a better shot at slamming this damn illness. Not every one can and there are different schools of thought but that is how it worked for me.

And while right now it feels like it will never end, it will and you will get a reprieve.

Takes hot baths in espon salt will help detox and helps with die off. Any way you can raise your body temp will encourage die off.

If you are not using a loofah or some thing of the type do so in the shower every day to encourage detox. Get rid of the dead skin so you body can sweat and eliminate toxins and don't use deordorant at home. We have sweat glands for a reason.....detox. Use a non commercial natural mineral one if you are going out to kill the odor.

Which medication contradicts milk thistle? A Chinese herb called Schisandra that most health food store carry. May be you can use that instead. I used both at one point when I was on heavy duty ABX.

And Keebler is right that NAC is very important not only for your liver but to increase glutathione levels which in turn help liver function and so much more. 500mg - 600mg, 2 - 3 x a day on an empty is usually prescribed.. Good quality whey protein concentrate, not isolate, is excellent too.

Kreynolds, you said: " . . .As far as detoxing, I am not right at the moment. . . ."

--

I hope you can add something to help support your liver. Not so much a detox flush sort of thing which (I think) can be too harsh, but specific liver support. Has your LLMD mentioned anything about this? Dr. B. has a good list. I'll come back with that, too.

You might consider IV glutathione. That has been very helpful for some here.

Abxnomore's suggestion of Schisandra is excellent. It can actually help the liver's C P-450 liver detox pathway and also helps with nerve function.

--

My pushing NAC is that I've read in many of the articles about ototoxic drugs that NAC has been helpful in preventing damage to the ears. I would do both NAC and Schisandra (Schizandra) and also ALA.

We all know that the liver has a hard time with toxins but did you know that the vestibular system (inner ear, middle ear, etc. all that has to do with hearing, balance and even with thinking and vision) . . . well, that takes the FIRST hit from toxins in the body.

--

Also, be sure to avoid aspirin as that can contribute to your hearing problems. I must say I am very concerned about that. I hope it gets better. Be very protective of your ears right now. Even when near a hairdryer or vacuum, please wear ear plugs (as everyone should but especially those on abx).

Chinese medicine: Schizandra berry a potent adaptogenic herb

====================

SCHISANDRA BERRY (Schisandra chinensis) (also spelled Schizandra)

Excerpts:

WHAT IT DOES:

Schisandra berry is sour in taste, astringent and warming.

It calms the mind and nerves, nourishes the Yin, generates fluids, strengthens general vitality and tonifies and protects the heart, liver and lungs.

. . .

* Male mice that received diets containing 5% schisandra berries exhibited a threefold increase in the important liver cytochrome P-450 antioxidanti system (Hendrich et al., 1983).

. . .

* Schisandra berries were shown to lower elevated liver enzyme levels in patients with chronic viral hepatitis (Chang and But, 1986, Liu et al., 1982).

And, one last thought: GINGER TEA or GINGER capsules may help you warm up and stop the shivers. It is also helpful for the ears and the stomach. It can help to relieve pain and inflammation, too.

Abxnomore,

I am not sure if it was the Malarone or the Artemesia that interacted with the milk thistle, I was told to stop while on them...

I agree with detoxing with epson salt, but am afraid of doing too much, if that makes sense...

Doesn't benzos interact with citrus?? I use to love to drink OJ and have lemon on a salad but ever since being on them I have had bas stomach problems if I consume citrus.....

Keebler,

I am a firm believer in ginger, garlic etc..... I consume a lot of ginger and garlic that I buy from my health food store, all organic.

I will call my health food store tomorrow to see if they carry the Schisandra, if not they can order it.

I am noticing as well that I am have pains near my gall bladder..

I pretty much have an iron stomach, but this is recently happening as well.

I started pulsing the Artemesia again today at a higher dose.

Each week I gradually increase the dose to knock this Babs out and it seems to be responding.

Is it best to take all the Art at once? I normally take it every 3-4 hours until my peak dose is reached.

Liver support is needed along with building my immune system back up, which will probably take a LONG time..

I am taking Wobenzyme and Bactrim as well...... the Wobenzyme I take 8 daily.....

Thanks for all the help! And Keebler thanks for the links, very informative!

I normally like the heat from the shower, sort of like the sauna effect.

I like to burn the "little buggers" up!

At the same time not trying to scorch myself! [Eek!]

I have never heard of milk thistle being contraindicated with much but I have never taken malerone. I don't know what you mean by doing too much. I used to take two boiling hot baths a

day with 2 cups epson salts and soak for 20 minutes. It was the only thing that helped relax me and I was in killing mode all the way. I really don't understand your concern. I also always took boiling hot showers. It made me feel great.

I also have not heard of this citrus problem with benzos. One should take all their meds and supplements with water only. We know that grapefruit juice interferes with phase 2 of liver detox in that in potentiates the medication but

as far as I now it just means don't take your meds with it and wait a few hours. Plus, there is no need to drink juice. It's sugar the body doesn't need and yeast love it. OJ, is sugar....junk for the body. Eating an orange is much healthier.

It sounds to me like you have some GI issues going on if lemon is giving you gas. You can takes a glass of warm water with the juice of a fresh lemon to clean out your system. Taking psyllium husk caps daily will also clean out your

bowel along with the lemon and you might see an improvement. And cf course you probably have some candida going on because of the ABX. You can also use vitamin C powder to bowel tolerance for a few days and replenish with lots of probiotics.

Also the wobenzyn may be hitting you hard too. It's thought that it can break down biofilm.
Are you spacing those eight tablets out during the day and taking them on an empty stomach. When I was at my sickest I was taking 8 three times a day.

Make sure to get alcohol free Schisandra and double check about the milk thistle. It really is so important.

You said, about artemesia: " . . .Each week I gradually increase the dose . . ."

Q: are you still within the recommended amounts?

Abxnomore,

I meant detoxing too much, not just taking the baths.

I don't want to do too much all at one time.

I think it is the Malarone that interacts with the Milk Thistle, but I will double check.

I was told by the pharmacist when I had called. I will call them tomorrow to find out.

As far as the Wobenzyme, I space them out on an empty stomach...

Keebler,

Yes, I am not at what Dr. B recommends yet, but close....

I don't think you can detox too much. The more toxins you can get out of your system by any method

will only benefit you. Epson salt baths are a mild way to detox plus will relax you from the magnesium your skin will absorb.

Here are some more things that might help with

detox. I have read about this at Chernobyl. They

did not have enough meds to help everyone so they did what they could. Amen
