This is taken from the above site coming from the first European Low Dose Naltrexone conference:
There has been much discussion recently on LDN fora about the correct timing for LDN dosing. In my experience of treating patients over the past five years, the timing of the LDN dose not affect it action and as such is down to individual preference. In treating chronic fatigue syndrome we always advise a morning dosing as these patients tend to have very poor sleep. In MS I tell the patient to vary the time to suit their needs and sleep requirements. There has been no obvious difference in response to the drug with these varying times but the preference is now usually for day time dosing.
***************
So there it is, Im going to try AM dosing. The lack of sleep is not good.
I take enough pills allready to get a little sleep. I dont need anymore to disturb me.

Thanks for posting this information. Since going to 4.5 LDN I have more trouble sleeping and am getting about 4-5 hours of broken sleep. This has only been going on for less than a week so I'll give it another 2 weeks and if it's not better, I'll switch to daytime dosing too.
I hope it goes well for you and you can get some sleep.

Thanks Terry, we need our sleep more then anything. And if there is some information saying that AM dosing is just as helpful for some as the PM dosing, then we should not be affraid take it in the AM!

I'm going to try this too. I think the drug does a lot for me but I also think I'm sleeping lighter because of it.

What I was told when given LDN was the take it at night was bc: Liver goes though our detox at night during our sleep, part of how our body works to take care of the daily detox issues. So, taking at night makes it more effective.
This way, the receptor sites are lifted, and am comes around and body better to cope and this is when LDN provides its actual effect to decrease ppain- less messages of pain sent to brain
hope that makes since, just posted bc of concern for taking it in am when would NOT be getting most benifiet from it based on the mechanism of action
maybe look into pharmacodynamics of the LDN first??
of course, my LLMD gave me 4.5 mg rx as "starting dose" KNOWING i was on opiods and ended up having seizures/ very clonic--- freaked out er dr...was a mess. so, now i know better !!

wow! sounds like everyone has it rough!
The european sconference on LDN it was said by several mds that LDN taken during the morning with MS patients was also effective.
These patients had too much insomnia on the night time dose.
So Bihari is half right?

I feel something today.
Pharmicist told me (at compounding pharmacy) that the proticol is at night, but It doesnt hurt to push the dosage back.
I told him "its experimental right?" and he said, "yea yea, it is."
So there you go, he even said some people have terrible insomnia on it, and Im one of those.
So I can take it however I see fit.
He asked me if I tried benadryll. I told him that im allready on alprazolam, zolpidem and diphenhydramine, so YESS!
He didnt know what to say other then try it out.

Do you know about the Yahoo group for LDN users? Someone told me about it recently.
It is linked on the lowdosenaltrexone.org website. Scroll about 1/4 of the way down the LDN page to find the yahoo group link.
I went to the Yahoo group page, but of course you have to join in order to read posts.
If you're squeamish, I will warn you that there is a mildly graphic photo on the Yahoo group page. Just some inflamed tissue before and after LDN, but it might not be something you want to see while eating.
Hope you can find the info you're looking for.

the inventor of naltrexone just emailed me back.
This is what he said:
Dear Mr. H :Shortly after we published our discovery of LDN, Dr. Biarhi called me and was quite interested in our work. We had just filed a patent application with the dosage for humans. I recommended that patients take the drug before sleeping as they would not be disturbed by having the naltrexone blocking the good endorphins for the first 4-6 hours of taking the drug. As it turns out, many people have disturbed sleep because of this. So, take it whenever - the morning is fine. There seems to be a myth around that you MUST take it in the evening. Wrong.Dr. Zagon

I took my first dose of LDN last night. My capsules are for 4.5 but I dumped about half of it out (2 mg, maybe 2.5?) and was ok with sleep. We will see what happens.

I started on 2 mg last night. I was very concerned since I have a major sleep problem now. I'm on enough drugs to choke a horse already, and still cannot sleep long enough.
My LLMD said just take it in the morning. I was awake too early today, but then I can't really tell because that's nothing new for me.
I was so hoping this would be something that would have good benefits for me, since nothing else has.

I know people who are new to this would want to know and keep aware of how their symptoms are either improving, getting worse, or staying the same.
I would be interested to know. I myslef feel a lift after my new dose time of 5:00 PM.
I am not sure yet 'at this stage' if it is a coincidence...
I will of course keep everyone updated!

Back when I tried it 12 or so years ago, there was a pharmacy that compounded it in NYC as a liquid. That may be better to get a specific dose.
The drug didn't help me. Horrific wake up screaming nightmares and I think my allergies got worse.
Good luck. I wonder about trying it again now in the AM.

this sounds rediculous, take it at night because of your liver?
