My 3 1/2 year old just started taking Zith (4th day today). She is all normal if I didn't know that her mom has had Lyme since she was pregnant with her. My daughter occasionally complained that her leg hurts.
When I first asked her mom's LLMD, he thought my daughter was too charming and sharp to be sick. Only after I mentioned about her complaint of her leg pain, he agreed to treat her and prescribed Zith.
The doc. says that he will treat her as long as she has the symptom - wonderful.
Now, my question is when to stop? Is there a minimum length of time one should be on antibiotic for Lyme? Should we really keep her on antibiotic until she stops complaining? She hasn't complained even before she started taking the first dose. It is now more like I will be waiting for her to complain again instead of "stop" complaining.
What am I looking at?

I don't think any of us know that. Some take antiboitics, stop and are sick again.
Some people take antiboitics for years with no good results.
However, I have always heard that children bounce back faster. My daughter has been on 4 months of antiboitics and she has come a long ways. (Energy and comprehension) She still has knee pains and said she feels like she needs a wheelchair. (She is 5) I will stop when I see her hit a plateau and stay there for a couple of months.
I also give her threelac to help with the issues that antiboitics cause. Yeast.
I, on the other hand, have taken antiboitics for 8 months with no improvement and I feel worse.
And, I am not sure how long I will treat before I say, it isn't helping.

See, in this case, I almost wish that she has a symptom that I could monitor but she doesn't other than occasional compliant about her leg pain.
Sounds like it is going to be a guessing game then.
But is there a minimum treatment period identified?

wtl, when my child was three he used to complain of his leg aching and that was his only symptom. Two years later other issues like rage and more aching pains were present.
This does not answer your question I realize, but wanted to let you know that it can get worse if not treated.
My husabnd and I had the same discussion the other night. We are going to treat till all symptoms go away and stay away for at least two months.
