About two weeks ago, I got the start of a rash in the middle of my back, between my shoulder blades.
It started off looking red and blotchy, and feeling kind of scaly. It was a bit itchy, but nothing really aggravating.
The rash spread across my upper back and shoulders, and eventually down onto my lower back, and the sides of my ribs. Most recently, it has moved onto my upper arms. It is now worst on my upper arms.
I get very dry/scaly feeling skin. My upper arms also feel bumpy. Small patches of skin eventually flake/come off (not from scratching), and I get a scab. It has also become more itchy.
In the last couple of days, it has become a lot more itchy, and I've gotten a lot more scabs (before I had almost none)
I went to the Dr today, and they had no idea what it was. She said it almost certainly wasn't scabies, and on my arms, it almost looked like folliculitis, but not quite. I haven't started any new medications in 6 weeks.
She put me on Keflex for 1 week (I told her about my other medications, and she said it would be fine). But it was a kind of "I don't know what it is, so try this" type of deal.
I'm going to talk to my LLMD, but I won't be able to do so until Tuesday. When I get home (I'm at school right now), I'll try to post a picture.
Does anyone have any ideas about what this might be?

Maybe Bartonella. I have the strangest skin rashes, although none exactly like what you have described. My LLMD attributes them all to Bartonella.

It may be a side effect of one of your abx. I get a strange rash on my back, chest and neck with ALL abx. It's tiny bumps that resemble acne, but it's actually dry and eventually flakes off. It doesn't itch.
It doesn't show up for 3-5 weeks AFTER I begin the abx. If I stop the med, the rash takes up to 4 months to clear up. Nothing seems to help (I've tried all kinds of products).
I've seen 2 dermatologists and they have no idea what it is or what to do. I just live with it.
Good luck, Kim

I got this too. It is still there. I did a soak of ginger/garlic/lemon and it did not help rash but skin feels great. But I am concerned about the rash.

another thought may be candida.
i too have had an itchy rash on my back that has been coming and going for months. my regular md said it was candida.
i heard you can get it cultured, but i havent so far.
he gave me a topical ointment to use for 2 weeks at a time, however it always seems to come back. i think its a steriod cream of some sort.
i am assuming he is correct because i have been fighting nasty yeast discomforts mainly because of taking abx for almost a year and birth control for an ovarian cyst problem.
unfortunately estrogen increases candida.

That would be just great. We treat-get our homones going again-and get more yeast.
