TORONTO -- An unpublished Canadian study that suggests getting an annual flu shot may make it easier to contract swine flu has caused most provincial governments in Canada to postpone or limit seasonal-flu vaccination programs.

The study remains a mystery in many ways. It is being reviewed for potential publication in a scientific journal, but the authors won't say which one. Few people have seen the data, and some experts have expressed skepticism of the results.

Another excerpt:

"...The study began after researchers in British Columbia this summer found a possible link between contracting H1N1 and receiving flu shots the previous season, for some people in the province..."

Why won't they release the report? Is someone

confirming? Tom Brokaw said on national news tonite

1/3 of the polls say they will not take the new flu

vaccine. Because of possible connection with the

failure of 1976. If you didn't see it, he

reported on the Fort Diggs outbreak leading to

the vaccine then. Can no one get how an association

to a outbreak at a military camp to the

population? I guess CDC's got a handle on this one too.

Very interesting indeed.

More media suppression. Cripes, I feel like I'm living in the U.S.S.R. in the 1950s.

Hey folks, you may already know this - but just in case...

There is a big difference between the nasal spray form of the vaccine and the injection. The injection is made from a dead influenza virus. It ``tricks'' the body into thinking it has had the H1N1 infection. FluMist is the nasal spray and made of a weakened live virus. Certain high risk groups should not have the nasal spray. E.g., the ``high risk'' groups include children under the age of 2 years, pregnant women, and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma. Of course, it's up for us to figure out whose immune system is ``weakened.''

The actual package insert for FluMist is here:
http://www.medimmune.com/pdf/products/flumist_pi.pdf

Note this section from the insert in particular:

5.5 Medical Conditions Predisposing to Influenza Complications
The safety of FluMist in individuals with underlying medical conditions that may predispose them to complications following wild-type influenza infection has not been established. FluMist should not be administered unless the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk.

This page from Johns Hopkins Medicine was removed:
http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heic/ID/influenza/fluMist.html

So this archived version may help:
http://web.archive.org/web/20051024023808/www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heic/ID/influenza/pdf/FluMistFacts.pdf

Other links:
http://www.drugs.com/cons/flumist.html

I heard on the news that there have been 12 deaths in Mass. from the vaccination so far, but I can find a confirming source. I'll keep looking.

Thanks Coldfeet. I think if you have underlying issues and are considering this or any vaccine you need to ask your LLMD for advice.
