Hi everybody,

I am currently on a HUGE dose of zithromax. I'm taking 2 500 mg pills 2 x/day.

Has anyone else ever been on 1,000 mg / day or more of zithromax.

If so, what was your reaction?

Hey Lymers, Talk to wild Condor or send her a PM. I believe she did a lot more then what you are doing and had great results with Zith.

Thanks bigstan.

That's a good idea.

Do you know if there's a way on lymenet to look up other members so you can PM them or do I need to find a post she's made in the past to PM her?

Never mind, bigstan...I figured out how to PM Wildcondor. Maybe she'll get back to me soon.

That dose is Okay. You can be on that dose plus a high dose of amox between 14,000 and 18,000mg and at least l,500mg flagyl or tindamax with no problem.

Huge doses of combos are needed to pass the BBB and combos to hit all forms.

But I thought it came in 600mg not 500mg, so that would be 1,200mg ad day. Pretty standard dose for zithromax.

Thanks for the reply, Abxnomore.

I'm on Moxatag ER (1450 mg/day) with the zithromax (1000 mg/ day).

I'm pretty sure the zithromax I'm taking is in 500 mg pills (I'll double check the bottle, though).

I wonder if it comes in 500 mg and 600 mg pills.

Sounds good, nice high doses. Will you be going on a cyst buster at some point? Yes, it looks like the generic comes in 500mg! Still a good dose.

I was on Tindamax to bust cysts prior to this regime.

I've heard from others here that Mepron busts cysts as well..

I took Mepron for 6 months.

Is your LLMD doing this to get you ready for pregnancy?

And are you on 1,000 mg total daily, or 2,000 mg total daily? The two posts seem to conflict.

I'm just surprised your GI can handle all that! I was accidentally doing 1,000 mg per day for a week, and it tore up my tummy.

Granted, if I would have known I was taking too much, I probably would have done more probiotics!

Did you take it on empty stomach? It sure seems many meds are really irritating when taken on empty stomach

Hi Hoosiers51,

Yes, I'm taking the zithromax to get me ready for pregnancy.

I think it's to make sure we beat back the bartonella pretty good.

I'm taking 1,ooo mg/ day total of the zithromax.

As far as I understand, I may be on the zithromax throughout the pregnancy, but maybe on a lower dose when I actually get pregnant. I'm not sure.

I'm supposed to call the doc when I actually get pregnant so he can adjust my meds if necessary.

I actually had a pretty hard time at first with zithromax affecting my GI tract badly.

I was taking just 500 mg/day at first and I had GI problems with it after each dose.

When the doctor wanted me to increase the dose to 1,000 mg/day I told him I was worried.

He said I could start out by taking just 1/2 an extra pill a day and work my way up to a whole extra pill/day.

I occassionally still have GI effects from this, but not too often. I don't kow why I have problems some days and not others with it.

I take one pill in the morning and one pill at night.

I think this is easier on my stomach than taking two pills together would be.

It might have helped that the doctor switched my probiotic to something more effective.

Yes Lymers, this was my dose too. I have done it on and off for three years. Along with Omnicef and flagyl. After awhile it did my my ear ringing worse though. Other than that I tolerated it okay. Hope it helps you!

Thanks for letting me know about your experience LisaS.

Did the ear ringing go away when you stopped taking zithromax?

I was on 1000mg of zithromax per day for a long time too, along with Omnicef, Mepron, Lariam, and pulses of Flagyl. I tolerated it pretty well, except when the Lariam or Flagyl got thrown in. Then it was major herx time.

My LLMD has switched me back to doxy now, which is so hard on my stomach. I have a peptic ulcer already anyway! I preferred the zithromax regimen, but what ever it takes to get to the infection, I guess...in lieu of going back on IV for the umpteenth time, I needed an oral that crossed the BBB.

Well I already had ear ringing to begin with but it got way worse on Zith. But not bad enough where I stopped it. I just stopped zith about a month ago and my ears are ringng back at the original level. LOL, did that make sense?

About EARS and keeping them safe through this:

Be sure to take your liver support so as to protect your ears. Zith can be hard on ears in several ways. Liver support (not "detox events") can help a great deal.

NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) is the best, together with Milk Thistle.

B-6 can also help protect the balance part of the ear system.

Everyone on lyme treatment should be taking some sort of on-going liver support. Protecting the liver will also help to protect the ears from excess toxins.

It is much easier to protect the ears in the first place. Repairing damage is harder.

Also, abx lower the decibel level at which damage can occur. Be sure to protect ears from loud sounds, even when operating hairdryers and vacuums, be sure to wear ear plugs.

If anyone ever has ear or balance problems when on any sort of medicine, be sure to look up the side effects and talk to your doctor.

This is included in Burrascano's Guidelines, but you may want to be able to refer to it separately, too:

Dr. Stratton Cautions on Protecting the Liver

. . . "Surprisingly, the only anti-chlamydial agent that did not cause hepatitis in some patients was NAC. In fact, NAC is recognized as being protective.

. . .

My conclusion is that NAC should be the first agent in an anti-chlamydial regimen and should be a constant part of the therapy for this protective effect, not to mention it's effect against elementary bodies.

Be sure to protect yourself from yeast!

Do you have a good probiotic like Theralac?? www.theralac.com

Eat a no sugar diet and stay away from white foods.

That is not HUGE, that is the appropriate dose for Lyme. 600-1,200 mg of Zithromax is what a good LLMD will prescribe.
