Hello, I am sending blood sample on Monday, but I forgot to ask at Fry (it's closed on weekend).
Does it need to be a whole blood or serum ?
Ia m using lavender-top tube. Does it already have EDTA in it ?
Please answer if someone knows. Thanks.

But I am about 8 hrs ahead [Smile]
I am doing stained smear and PCR for Babesia.
And for these tests EDTA-lavender-top tube should be used.

Ohhh! your in Poland! Sorry. I'm pretty sure the lavender top tubes are for whole blood samples because EDTA is an anti-coagulant! Usually red ones are for serum. Hmm...but this is Poland...why dont you send one whole blood and one serum in that case and then when it gets there they can use the one they need!

Ok, now I know - it needs to be whole blood and there is already EDTA in the tube. So nurse has just to draw a blood to the tube and that's all, I think.

Hello,
my results - PCR for 28 Babesia species is negative.
And smear from Fry Lab - few coccobacilli adherent to erythrocytes - suggestive of Hemobartonella or Hemoplasma.

P.S. I am on Rifampin Roxythromycin and Doxy
