I was on Zithromax (name brand) for about 6 months at 250 mg strength, 1 time per day.
I've been off of that (I was on other abx as well, but Zith was consistent for 6 months) since July and on Herbs and homeopathics.
I had some dental work done on Monday, and when I went to urgent care with lung issues, the great Nurse Practitioner, who is a nurse for chemo patients says she sees this sort of stuff in immune compromised people often when they have invasive dental work. She believes it to be a bacterial infection, and she suggested a Z-pack. So. . here's what I'm thinking. it is day 2. Day 1 I took 500 mg as directed. I want to take another 500 as long as I'm taking it for the next 4 days anyway. I can't get ahold of my doc until tomorrow.
Any musings about that? I never took 500 mg, but tolerated 250 no problem.

My gut says my LLMD will say, sure, take the 500 mg doseage. I get a tummy ache from azith, and of course, I didn't ask the Nurse P. for name brand. I do have a couple of refills at home though of name brand.

I started on 500mg as my very first treatment, also taken with 500mg flagyl and diflucan.

500mg will not harm you.
Some people take 1500mg
Most LLMD's have been backing off high dosage abx's and are starting to take it "slower."
Especially when it comes to flagyl. They are very careful now.

I agree that some LLMDs are backing off high doses. I personally believe in low and slow; and have been doing low dose doxy since June with slow improvement. Saw NO improvement with my aggressive treatment.
My understanding is that our tissues can only absorb a certain amount of the antibiotic anyway, so there is no point in adding in huge doses that are only going to be squeezed out and leaving your liver all that extra to deal with.
