I remember liquid nystatin. I didn't even read the part about swallowing until I was almost done with it. But it did clear up my mouth issues.
I don't think it's a herx. Is nystatin an antibiotic?

Why don't you want to swallow it? It will help clear out the yeast in your gut if that is a problem too.

Nystatin is anti-fungal. To treat yeast/candida in mouth and stomach. Yes, it has to be swallowed for it to work.

Swishing is good for the mouth directly but not nearly enough. It need to be taking internally, too, to help the gut stuff.

First, though, read the ingredients and be sure they've not added aspartame. I tried to search on line but am just to tired to sort it all out.

If all the ingredients are not listed - active and inert - search by the name on the bottle and the company to find the web site for exactly what you have.

Oral Suspension

Each mL of light yellow suspension with cherry-like odour contains nystatin 100,000 units. Nonmedicinal ingredients: artificial flavouring, calcium disodium EDTA, D&C Yellow No. 10, magnesium aluminum silicate, methylparaben, polysorbate 80, propylparaben, purified water and

Nystatin suspension contains significant amounts of sucrose... sucrose...

yours doesnt have aspartame- looks like there's some sugar in it (??? why would they do that???). Maybe it's not very much sugar. Anyway, this stuff works for oral thrush etc.

I had rather it have sugar than aspartame.

It sounds like you are going to have to swallow it to get much benefit.

Maybe it will help your stomach troubles go away.

Its called Nystatin SWISH AND SWALLOW for a reason. Swallow it, thats how it works in the GI system. Nystatin is NOT absorbed into the blood, stays in the gut. Swallow it!

Well, I'm glad there is no aspartame and that is not uncommon in liquid (and powdered) medicines.

But, I have to say that I am shocked by all the additives, though. Just shocked. I would never put some of that stuff in my body. Aluminum, petroleum products and dyes, oh, my (sigh!). There is just no excuse for that. And who knows what exactly is in the artificial flavouring? Often, that contains gluten.

Street, you said that your LLPA gave you Nystatin and Diflucan. And SpiroNIL (Teasel root) and BioTox Elim tinctures.

So, then you said you asked a new GP the other day (and 89 year old woman) about some scripts so they would be covered by your insurance.

Are you sure that the LLPA's prescriptions would not be covered by your insurance?

Did you ever pick up the Nystatin and Diflucan prescriptions that your LLPA prescribed? What was the FORM of Nystatin he prescribed? If pure powder, (hopefully) that would not contain additives and you can swirl that around in your mouth, etc.

Also, you wrote last week that you'd picked up some Goldenseal (or was it Berberine?). Either way, berberine is the main component that is anti-yeast. But, berberine is also in the BioTox Elim. So, you've really already got that but the next time you see your LLPA you could ask about adding the other things you got.

I am concerned about getting too far off the path of what your LLPA has prescribed for you. He did cover candida, very clearly with very specific things. So, you have things that the LLPA gave you that address many things. These, if used according to direction, should work. They may take some time, but you should be seeing some progress.

If you need to find a doctor who can prescribe what you LLPA recommends (to have insurance cover those that are Rx) then ask your LLPA if he knows of some other GPs (on your insurance) whom you might see for support services such as this.

Oh, about the Chinese Food. If you tell them: NO SUGAR & NO MSG - that is the most important reason for avoiding Chinese food. Most have high amounts of MSG, a brain toxin that is highly excitatory to adrenals, too. It's horrible stuff and there is no way to get well if consuming that.

However, many Chinese (and Asian) restaurants are now making an effort to NOT use MSG but they usually post that on their menu. Still, you can always ask for just steamed veggies, chicken, etc. with no sauce.

White rice is also basically sugar. Can you ask them if they would start carrying and cooking brown rice? If they knew you'd be coming on certain days, maybe? Or just get the food without rice. You can still get good steamed meals.

Thread: Topic: black coated tongue

In one reply, Sammy wrote:

I was recently just prescribed the oral suspension of Nystatin as well. I hadn't heard anyone mention what I was told by one of my caregivers. The stomach and the mouth have been discussed, but the structure in between, the esophagus has not been mentioned.

What was explained to me by my NP is that for uncomplicated thrush of the tongue, Nystatin is traditionally used as a swish and spit. If the patient experiences sore throat, trouble swallowing, etc, then the Nystatin is used as a swish and swallow. By swallowing, you also coat the esophagus.

Someone mentioned a black tongue. I had that as well, and my toxicologist suggested to me the oral thrush had mutated and was using tyrosine, hence the black color. Mine is much improved, although not gone after five days of use.

today, my tongue look pink for the first time since last year april 2009, im scare that im seeing this, i hope when i look in the mirrow again, that it is still pink...now i dont know if i have candida in the guts, im confused as hell, sorry for the language,

im fatigue as usual, so i may have candida, the tongue is not a good thing to use anymore cause it pink and pretty, i am on the second bottle of the nystatin, i was using the first one like a crazy chick last nite, i wanted result,

but i was not putting that sweet stuff in my system, after i spit it out i wash my mouth out, but the still after effect, the taste on my tongue was still there and a little of it still find it way down my throat.

i will be doing the spit test, the spit test, for those that might asked, what is a spit test

you have an over night glass with water on your night stand, first thing in the morning before you do anything, you spit in the glass, if the

spit moves to the buttom of the glass, you have candida.. if it doesnt go, you dont have it, the spit goes down in strings, one or two or even

three, mines goes down. but they also said that is not a good enough proof to prove that you have candida..so what is, there isnt any good way of showing that you have candida.... oh well.

What FORM of Nystatin did your LLPA prescribe? Where is that?

The powder is to be put in water and swished and swallowed, too. But it would be without the additives (one would hope).

THIS is what you want - "no excipients or preservatives"

You may have to pay for it yourself but it's far better than putting junk in your body. I'll bet this is what the LLPA prescribed.

If a doctor writes: "no substitutions" that might help.

the deal with Nystatin being sweet is because when you take it, the yeast go after the sugar in it and are then killed off by the Nystatin. It is a targeting agent in that regard. It is supposed to be that way folks.

WC, it's good to remember the reason for sucrose.

I am much more concerned about all the OTHER additives: petroleum products coming from a couple different ingredients, dyes, unidentified "artificial flavorings" that may contain gluten or even MSG as these are often hidden by that label.

If some sort of sugar needs to be taken to attract the yeast for Nystatin to clobber it, there are cleaner ways to do that.

Nothing in this list is good for us, at all:

D&C Yellow No. 10, magnesium aluminum silicate, methylparaben, polysorbate 80, propylparaben . . . .

There are many brands of Nystatin, you can get the compounded powder with nothing added too. Just ask your LLMD for a Rx for that from a compounding pharmacy.

believe me, just swallow the dang stuff, it won't kill you.

i had thrush so bad my entire mouth was white and i got thick stringy strands from brushing my tongue. my throat was sore and i ws having problems swallowing.

my llmd would not give me anything that would hurt me, so please, just swallow. like i said, it won't kill you and the sugar is minimal.

now if you want to go back to a doc and try to get diflucan, by all means. that's hard on the liver by the way.

taste is not bad, reminds me of bananas. and a whole bottle lasts a long time.

trust your doc and if not, call the pharmacist.

Don't take the liquid. It is full of sugar or sweeteners, which just feeds the yeast and the bacteria. Ask your doc to prescribe the standard 500,000 IU tablets instead.

Nystatin is very safe. I used to take 2 tablets 4 times per day for yeast/thrush. I would crush 2 of the doses and swish it around in my mouth. It tastes like crap, but it will get rid of thrush and upper gastro yeast faster that way. I now take 4-6 per day when I am on abx for LD.

Also, read The Yeast Connection by Dr. Crook. There is a lot of good info in that book.
