How long is too long for a herx? My husband has been on mepron/zithromax for @ a month and is in so much pain. Is this normal? How long before he'll see ANY improvement? We are just very scared that it won't get better. Any advise would be so helpful and appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome!

I herxed for six weeks solid when I started Levaquin for bart.

When I started Mepron/Biaxin, I was so ill that it didn't seem any worse. At 4 weeks it got worse, so bad I couldn't walk without help. Then I felt a tiny bit better than before. Each month I flared like that, and each month got a tiny bit better.

It will take time, perhaps even months, before he starts having good hours, then good days.

Today I am well. Lyme is in my past except for the time I put into this board.

Have hubby try epsom salt baths. They are a huge help for pain.

It shouldn't last for a month, maybe a few days or a week. I would call the doctor.

Is your husband doing a lot to detox; epsom salts and hydrogen peroxide baths, lemon olive oil drink, alpha lipoic acid? What about liver detox, is he taking burdock or something since he has to be off milk thistle with Mepron?

Let us know what the doctor says....

From Rxlist:
Other events occurring in 10% of the patients
receiving the recommended dose of MEPRON included sweating, flu syndrome, pain, sinusitis, pruritus, insomnia, depression, and myalgia. Bronchospasm occurred more frequently in patients receiving aerosolized pentamidine (11%) than in patients receiving MEPRON 1,500 mg/day (4%) and MEPRON 750 mg/day (2%).
