Hi all,

As a secondary question to my earlier one:

My relationship with my hasband started about 10 years after I was infected.

Thanks.

My extremely educated LLMD says absolutely! He says he sees couples in his office constantly who have passed it to eachother.

One of the big jobs of lyme is to effectively spread. And it learns well, so I would also say definitely.

My husband of 11 years didn't have any symptoms until two years ago. He tested positive, .. no real history of tick bite or rash or anything.
We and our LLMD believe he got it from me.

The same with my two youngest children. No tick bites. And they are positive for Lyme.

My oldest child has a history of tick bite and all over rash.. so she could have been born with it and then re-infected. All my kids are neuro Lymies.

It is passed sexually and congenitally.

Also to consider with kissing and some forms of intimate contact: Something rarely discussed is bleeding gums; small breaks in skin from tooth brushing or flossing - and eating chips or bruxism (with grinding of teeth, the sides of mouth often get bitten).

Wow! Thanks for all the links TerryK. And, thanks everyone else for all of your input.

This all really sucks. Right now I am so appalled at the medical community about this.

It is passed on via all body fluids. The hand is also a perfect go-between. How often do we touch our mouth with our hands and then touch an object/table/person? Bb survive for many hours in the sun and at a restaurant table.

Microorganism's survival strategy is to locate in the reproductive organ area.

Most people are infected. But many manage to keep their toxic load at a level where their immune system can handle it. "If you have been bitten by a mosquito", so Dr. K. asks, "you are infected."

Reducing the toxic load is priority.

Take care.

The medical community will say there is no proof that it is sexually transmitted. And actually I guess it hasn't been totally scientifically proven at this point. But I feel sure that there is always the chance that it is. Maybe not nearly as prominant as some ppl make it out to be.

One reason couples may both have it, could be that they are in the same places together to get bitten by the same ticks.

Still it is best to be on the safe side since lyme is a spirochete and so is syphillis. Take precautions and maybe get your partner to get tested.

I have been treating for 2 years, sick for 4, and now my hubby has decided he wants to get tested. He has a few aches and pains and more fatigued than he use to be; however he is getting older too and has been thinking that is all it is. Also he is on some heart meds that make him feel tired.

I think he is going to bring it up next month at my next LLMD appt. I will let you guys know if he test positive.

He doesn't have any of the crazy symptoms that I have had, nothing neuro, no jerking or twitches, etc. So I'm hoping he is just getting old! HA!

We plan to get my husband tested. Our LLMD said that studies with mice show that females living together infect each other. They think it is from cuddling and close contact. He said he does not think it is sexually transmitted. But he said he treats more than 150 couples who both have it.

My husband is very tired...more so than usual. He has trouble tracking, which is most unusual. His OCD is terrible. So, when we can afford it we will get him tested. Maybe it is just "getting old". Let's hope so!

DOCTOR: "I don't think you are sick."

If it were transmitted that easily, everyone will get it eventually, but this isn't so in the real world. Strong immunity fights it off. Don't panic.

I had unprotected sex during all the years I got active lyme and my husband never caught it. I guess it depends more on the immune system than on anything else.

His immune system seems to work better than mine.

One of my LLMd's former pres of ILADS told my (infected) husband and I that if we didn't treat together - we'd ping pong, through kissing! I was shocked.

I know that mycoplasma and chlamydia trac and pneumonia can be passed both sexually and by respirtorily. I'd like to see proof of lyme in semen, saliva, eye fluids and body fluids. It seems it should be easy to find there. If we want everyone to believe us lets somehow show the proof.
